Roadkill?! My name is Jill Tiny chapter 20 by copier · original author: jinxed_myself

Unfortunately for the small pair, the "house" they had scrabbled into was the little girl's old doll house. If they had taken a better look, they would have noticed a larger, prettier newer house where all the dolls had been dropped. The shaking they had experienced was due to the girl's mother hauling the old doll house out to the curbside for the trash to be picked up in the morning. The two tinies slowly peaked out the plastic windows, wondering just what they were going to do now. The little couple just looked at each other, both at a total loss.

"Well," said Jill, "I think we should find another place to sleep. What if we sleep too long in the morning and get taken out with the trash?" The ten-inch girl shivered, hugging herself. A stray thought entered her mind, perhaps they would have been better off if they had just hung around the school until their parents had come to pick them up. She sniffled and Tyler wrapped his arms around her as well, doing his best to give her some sort of comfort.

"I think so, too," the smaller boy agreed. With that, the two tiny humans exited the doll house and began to walk. They didn't know where exactly they were heading, they were just trying to find someplace for the night that wouldn't treat them like a meal, a plaything or a piece of garbage. To make matters worse, it started to rain on the little pair. Now, their sniffles were two-fold: cold and misery.

They stopped at a curb, looking both ways before deciding to cross the street. Maybe they'd have better luck on the other side of the little neighborhood. About halfway across the street, the worst seemed to be upon them. Barreling down the road was a pair of headlights and the sound of an engine roaring. Tyler and Jill both screamed, hugging each other and hunkering down in the middle of the road. The sound of screeching tires and the smell of burning rubber filled the air as the driver of the car tried to stop. Jill cracked open an eye before both of her eyes opened wide to see the hood of a black Ford Mustang mere inches from her nose.

The driver's door swung open and the two tinies heard a young woman's voice swear before her footsteps splashed through the forming puddles.

"Are you alright? Oh my gosh! You're naked! In the cold and rain! You poor things." She knelt down and the headlights brought her face into view. She was a young woman, probably in her early twenties, with bright blue eyes and even brighter red hair. "I thought you two would be roadkill! I'm sorry. Bless your hearts. C'mon, let's get you out of this rain." She knelt down and held out her hands, offering the little pair a lift into her car.

Jill and Tyler looked at each other, trying to decide whether or not to accept this seeming olive-branch from someone who could have just as easily scooped them up without their permission. Tyler, worn down from the day's events and desperate to get out of the rain, stepped forward first. The young woman gently wrapped him in her hand and slowly stood. Brown boots flashed by Jill's vision when the taller woman stood and walked around to the passenger side before gently depositing the eight-inch human in the passenger seat. She returned and knelt down before Jill, her hand once more extended and smile spread across her face.

"C'mon, Sweetie, I'm not gonna bite."

It's not that I'm worried about, Jill thought as she gave up and took a seat in the young woman's hand. Her own small fingers desperately grasped onto the woman's larger ones when the world swayed a bit as the red-head stood. She gasped as she was tucked against a chest that was larger than she was and a fleece-lined jacket surrounded her. Jill tried to sit up and struggle, extremely uncomfortable with the situation. Past experiences had left her with a fear of being confined within people's clothing.

"Easy, hun. You're fine," A warm, soft voice filtered down to her through the jacket. She heard the creek of a car door as she continued to struggle before her world went horizontal and she was gently deposited in the seat beside Tyler. The car door shut and the warm interior began to ease the numbness the cold rain had brought on. The driver's door opened and in slid their seeming-rescuer. She smiled and the two tinies huddled together, still not entirely trusting.
