A Glorious Death Part IV My name is Jill Tiny chapter 23 by copier · original author: rainman1131

The two girls moved out of the shadow of the three giants in the doorway, becoming giants again themselves as they approached the tiny phalanx of soldiers. As they knelt on the street, they each began to reach for the first line of soldiers.

Then the little people released the first barrage of spears. It was a well-coordinated attack, with every other soldier throwing a spear, while the one to his side protected the front with his shield.

The first flight of spears caught the girls by surprise, with several sticking in the soft skin of their necks and faces.

"Ow!" cried both girls, more in surprise than pain, but the attack got their attention. They both quickly brushed at their faces, easily dislodging the tiny spears.

There was a collective shout of triumph from the soldiers below, as they unleashed the next barrage. This time, Jill and Jackie were ready, raising their arms over their faces, blocking most of the spears. They plucked out those that had managed to get through, as well as those stuck in their upraised arms.

"Here we go, Jackie," Jill whispered through gritted teeth. "Be quick, be merciful."

Jackie nodded, attacking the first row. She batted at the shields in front, knocking several of the little people off their feet. As she reached for them, the fallen soldiers' comrades jabbed their spears at her hands, but Jackie ignored them, barely feeling the the little pin pricks.

She brought her fists down onto the soldiers, crushing two with each hand. As she felt the slick wetness of their guts on her hands, she felt something rise in her throat.

In the meantime, Jill was executing a similar maneuver, crushing five soldiers in her grasping hands. The little people were yelling again, that same weird, high-pitched war cry. Jill heard another sound beneath that one, a low, piteous moaning; it took her awhile to realize the sound was coming from her own mouth.

The battle went on for the next several minutes, with the little people fighting valiantly, jabbing their spears at the giant, grasping hands, closing ranks with their shields as their comrades continued to fall around them. The only shouts came from those still fighting, because Jill and Jackie made sure there were no wounded.

The two girls crowded forward on their knees, sometimes slipping in the gore-slicked street. The phalanx of soldiers had dwindled to a tight handful of four - three men and a woman. They faced the giantesses, standing back to back, with their spears poking out between the shields.

Jill raised her fists, planning to end it for all of them, when she saw it.

A long, blond ponytail,

Jill lowered her hands. She reached out quickly, throwing a light punch at the tight little group, knocking all four soldiers off their feet. Unharmed, they tried to scramble back into their formation, but Jill reached down a hand, separating out the three little men and rolling them over toward Jackie.

Jackie, her face sweaty and blood-spotted, nodded at Jill as she reached for the men.

In her peripheral vision, Jill was vaguely aware of Jackie raising her fists and pounding them down onto the ground, but she really didn't pay attention to it. Instead, she looked at the little woman who had rolled briskly to her feet in the street below. The warrior women was weaving slowly from side to side, holding her shield in one hand and a sawed-off spear in the other. She was looking up at Jill, a grim smile on her blood-spattered face. Her blond ponytail was dark with blood.

With lightening speed, Jill reached down her hand and scooped up the woman warrior, knocking the shield from her hand. The little blond kicked and struggled in Jill's hand, raising her spear and bringing it down viciously into Jill's finger. The spear point bore in deeply, raising a tiny bead of blood on the side of Jill's index finger. It hurt, and Jill would have cried out, had she not felt so numb.

The giant girl twisted the spear out of the little woman's hands easily, then pulled it up out of her own flesh. That hurt, too, and, as Jill found out later, it would leave a tiny scar.

Jill raised the still-squirming woman up to her face. The giant girl managed a sad smile. "What's your name?" Jill asked.

The tiny woman stopped struggling. She was breathing heavily, and it took her a moment to catch her breath. "La...la...Lisa."

"You are so brave, Lisa." Jill brought the warrior woman up to her face, kissing her softly. The giant girl smiled as a tear rolled down her cheek. "That's no name for you, though." Jill closed her eyes, opened them again. "It should be Greek, I know, but...I christen thee, Brunhilde. Valkyrie."

The tiny blond had a few moments to smile sadly, before Jill quickly squeezed her fingers together.

Afterward Jill, weeping quietly, set the limp, crushed body on the ground near her fallen comrades.

Both girls stood staring at the carnage at their feet.

The battlefield was still. The ruined bodies of the soldiers lay heaped upon the street, their broken shields and spears scattered among them like artifacts. There were no wounded.

Jill wiped at her face, then looked at Jackie, laying a finger beneath her own eye. Jill shook her head.

Jackie, understanding, wiped the tears from her face, too.

Now the two turned to face the real giants.
