Mati and two lamias

The mall was a sprawling, neon-lit labyrinth of glass and steel, and for Emily, it was essentially a candy store of sensory overload. She didn't so much walk as she did oscillate, her blue tail undulating with an excitement that threatened to knock over nearby mannequins. Every few seconds, she would lunge toward a window display, her new, rounded chest bouncing with every eager hop, her blue eyes wide as she scanned the racks for anything that looked remotely "cloud-like."
Mati walked beside her, feeling like a shepherd trying to keep a very energetic, very large blue snake from drifting into the fountain. He could feel the curious gazes of other shoppers; while lamias weren't unheard of, the sight of a young one with such a sudden, dramatic growth spurt in her chest—paired with a bewildered human male in a red shirt—was enough to draw attention. He kept a steadying hand on Emily's shoulder, guiding her toward the section of the mall where the more "flexible" clothing stores were located.
"Remember Emily: You don't have feet. You're lamia. So, you can't have shoes or pants. But you can buy awesome tops, t-shirts, blouses and maybe some dresses?" Mati said, he is looking at Emily.
Emily stopped in her tracks, her blue tail giving a thoughtful wiggle as she looked down at her long, blue tail. She had almost forgotten the basics of her own anatomy in the heat of her excitement. "Oh! Right! No shoes!" she exclaimed, her voice ringing out through the mall. She looked at the clothing racks with a new sense of focus, her blue eyes scanning for the perfect "cloud" outfit. "But Daddy Mati, if I can't wear pants, does that mean my tail gets to be free? I can use it to hold the shopping bags!" She beamed at him, the thought of being a multi-tasking shopping machine clearly appealing to her.
"Of course, Emily. Your tail will be free from pants. Come on! Let's look around for new t-shirts, blouses, outfits, dresses and maybe even some... necklaces?" Mati said with a grin on his face.
Emilia glided alongside them, her red tail making a soft *shhh* sound against the mall tiles. She watched her daughter's excitement with a tender smile, her blue eyes reflecting the bright store lights. "Now, now, Emily, let's try not to knock over any displays while we search for your cloud-outfits," she reminded her daughter gently, though there was a playful tone in her voice. She looked at Mati, leaning in slightly so her shoulder brushed against his. "It's quite endearing, isn't it? I haven't seen her this focused on something that wasn't a video game in weeks."
Emily's eyes nearly popped out of her head at the mention of necklaces. She let out a little gasp, her blue tail curling into a tight, excited spiral. "Necklaces?! Like a queen? Or like a treasure hunter?!" She practically vibrated with energy, her new, full chest heaving with her quick breaths. "Can I get one with a glowing stone, Daddy Mati? One that looks like the math magic water?"
She didn't wait for an answer before she spotted a store with a bright, welcoming sign and a window full of oversized, fluffy fabrics. Without warning, she lunged forward, her blue tail giving one final, powerful shove against the floor that propelled her toward the entrance like a torpedo. "There! The Cloud Kingdom! Come on, come on! Hurry up!" she shouted over her shoulder, her voice echoing through the mall as she zoomed into the store, her pink hair streaming behind her.
Mati blinked, momentarily stunned by the velocity of Emily's exit. He felt a slight breeze as she whipped past him, nearly pulling him along in her wake. He let out a breathless laugh and looked up at Emilia, who was shaking her head with a look of amused resignation. "Well, I guess we've found the destination," he said, adjusting his red shirt and starting to follow the trail of pink hair and blue scales leading into the shop.
As they entered "The Cloud Kingdom," Mati was immediately hit by a wall of softness. The store was a paradise of faux-fur, oversized fleece, and plush fabrics in every pastel color imaginable. It was a textile wonderland designed specifically for those who prioritized comfort over everything else—and for those whose anatomy required a bit more room to breathe. He watched as Emily practically dove into a rack of oversized white hoodies, her blue tail whipping around in circles of pure joy.
Emily emerged from a mountain of white fleece, her head popping out from the neck of a hoodie so enormous it could have easily doubled as a sleeping bag for a human. The fabric swallowed her small frame completely, leaving only her beaming face and a few stray strands of pink hair visible. She looked exactly like the marshmallow she had dreamed of being, the thick material bunching up around her now-full chest and draping all the way down to where her blue scales began.
"Look! Look! I'm a cloud! A giant, fluffy, marshmallow cloud!" she shrieked with delight, performing a clumsy, joyful spin that caused the hem of the oversized garment to flare out like a bell. The sheer volume of the hoodie made her look even smaller and more precious, despite the new curves it was struggling to conceal. She rushed back to Mati, the fabric billowing around her, and practically collided with him, her blue eyes wide with an urgent need for approval. "Do I look like a cloud, Daddy Mati? Do I? Does it look like the marshmallow kingdom?!"
Mati let out a genuine, hearty laugh, reaching out to poke the plush white fabric of the hoodie. He felt like he was touching a giant piece of cotton candy. The way the hoodie draped over her, combining her small stature with the sudden fullness of her chest and the massive volume of the fleece, made her look absolutely ridiculous in the most endearing way possible. He couldn't help but smile, his brown eyes softening as he looked at the sheer, unadulterated happiness radiating from the young lamia.
"You don't just look like a cloud, Emily; you look like the *queen* of the marshmallow kingdom," he joked, gently tugging on one of the oversized sleeves that hung far past her fingertips. "It's definitely the fluffiest thing I've ever seen. I think you've officially achieved peak marshmallow status." He stepped back a bit to get a full view, nodding in approval. "It's a perfect fit. Well, 'fit' might be the wrong word—it's more like you're living inside a very cozy tent—but that's exactly what you wanted, right?"
Emily let out a triumphant squeal, the sound muffled slightly by the high collar of the fleece. She did a little victory dance, her blue tail thumping rhythmically against the carpeted floor of the store, sending a few stray hangers rattling on a nearby rack. "Yes! Peak marshmallow!" she cheered, hugging herself—which essentially meant she was just hugging a large amount of white fabric. She looked like a tiny, happy face peeking out from a snowdrift.
She suddenly paused, her blue eyes widening as she remembered the other items on their list. She looked up at Mati, then over at her mother, her expression shifting from triumph to intense concentration. "Wait! The hoodies are for being a cloud, but we still need the 'treasure hunter' things!" She pointed a sleeve-covered arm toward a jewelry display near the back of the store that featured iridescent crystals and shimmering chains. "And maybe some shirts that aren't clouds! Like... gaming shirts! Do they have shirts with pixels on them here?!"
Mati chuckled, glancing at the jewelry display and then back to the hyperactive "cloud" before him. He reached out and gently patted the top of Emily's head, which was currently framed by a thick rim of white fleece. "Slow down, little marshmallow. We'll get to the treasure hunting and the pixels," he said, his voice warm and patient. He looked over at the jewelry, noting how the crystals caught the overhead mall lights, casting tiny rainbows across the store. "A glowing stone, huh? I think we can definitely find something that looks like a piece of 'math magic' for you."
He started guiding her toward the back of the store, though "guiding" was a generous term for trying to steer a girl who was essentially a blue torpedo wrapped in a white blanket. He felt a surge of contentment; seeing Emily this happy made the chaotic energy of the mall entirely worth it. "As for the gaming shirts, I'm not sure if the 'Cloud Kingdom' sells pixels, but if they don't, we'll just head to the next store. We're not leaving this mall until you're fully equipped for your new look."
Emily practically glided over the carpet, the oversized white hoodie billowing around her like a parachute. She came to a sudden, screeching halt in front of the jewelry display, her blue eyes reflecting the shimmering facets of the crystals. She leaned in close, her nose almost touching the glass, her breath fogging up the surface as she pointed a sleeve-covered finger at a pendant featuring a deep, iridescent opal that shifted from blue to violet and pink.
"That one! That's the one!" she gasped, her voice a hushed, reverent whisper. "It looks exactly like the water in the game when the light hits it! It's like... a piece of the math magic caught in a rock!" She looked up at Mati with wide, pleading eyes, her expression so earnest it was almost impossible to say no. The sheer contrast of her tiny, excited face peeking out from the massive white collar of the hoodie made the request feel like a royal decree from the Marshmallow Kingdom.
Mati looked from the iridescent opal to Emily's hopeful face, feeling his resolve crumble instantly. There was something about the way she associated the jewelry with the "math magic" he was teaching her that made it more than just a piece of jewelry; it was a symbol of their new bond and her eagerness to learn. He chuckled, shaking his head as he reached into his pocket for his wallet.
"Alright, you win. The Opal of Math Magic it is," Mati said with a soft laugh. He signaled the store clerk, who looked slightly bewildered by the sight of a human man and two lamias—one of whom was currently disguised as a giant piece of laundry. As the clerk carefully retrieved the necklace from the display, Mati watched as Emily's blue tail gave a series of rapid, happy twitches, practically drumming against the carpet in anticipation.
