After the sound of the door opening, you heard the voice of whoever had been sent to you as they stepped in and closed the door behind them. While you couldn’t make out the words from this distance, their voice definitely sounded quite unpleasant, as if they were already annoyed. That fact certainly didn’t help with your anxiety, but the increasing magnitude of their steps at least told you that they were getting closer to you.

Brenda stepped into the room first, soon followed by the new monolithic figure. The uniform immediately gave away that she was a police officer, though beyond that, she was a complete stranger to you. She was a bit taller than Brenda, with lightly-tanned skin, long and dirty-blonde hair, sunglasses that hid her eyes behind them, and a generous coating of the pinkest lipstick you had ever seen on her lips.
Now back in the room, the two women were also close enough for you to understand what they were saying.

“Believe me, Officer Pepper, I’m of sound mind!” Brenda pleaded to the officer, who seemed to be observing the room.

“You don’t seem under the influence, but that alone doesn’t make me believe your story. You know there are consequences for making prank calls to the police, right?”

“Yes, I do know that, but this isn’t a prank, I swear! I can prove it to you, you just need to look into that microscope and you’ll see the person I called about yourself.”

An intimidating silence followed as Officer Pepper stared at the microscope. It was a simple ask, a few steps through the room and a quick glance into the lens. Yet, with her mind seemingly already made up before she even got here, there was a chance she wouldn’t even bother. If she was just a little too stubborn, you and Brenda could get into a lot of trouble.

“Alright, I’ll take a look,” Officer Pepper eventually gave in as she walked over, her heavy steps shaking the table, the microscope, and the slide.

“But if I don’t see anything, you’ll be in even bigger trouble, I’ll make sure of that.”

Finally, as the titanic cop stood before you, she bent down and lifted her sunglasses to look through the microscope. You immediately jumped and waved just like you did for Brenda. You were sure it must work this time, but you saw no reaction from Officer Pepper yet. Until eventually…
