Not bothering to consider where you’re going, you just start running. The shallow pool of leftover beer splashes beneath your feet, and you have to catch yourself from slipping and falling practically every other step.

“Eight…”

“Seven…”

You feel a wave of relief as you notice the floor beneath you sloping upwards, definitely the start of the bottleneck. A few more slippery moments, you have to drop to your knees and crawl, fitting through the quickly narrowing passageway towards the exit.

“Three…”

You slip through the hole and tumble onto the table with a quiet splat, and unsteadily rise to your feet.

“One!” Skye announces, before grabbing the bottle behind you, raising it into the sky with ease, you hear the ringing thud of Lin landing roughly at the bottom of the bottle as it’s turned upright. Skye looks down at you. “Congratulations! Someone actually won this time, look at you!,” she places the bottle beside you, giving you a last look at your competitor on the other side of the glass. She’s not a sore loser at least. “Say bye to Lin, everyone! Maybe she’ll get it next time.” She brings her focus back to you, “maybe if you stick around a little, you be giving her some tips, pronto. Or not, depends how good you are at these, but anyway, let’s not drag this out too much.” She raises the bottle again, puts it to her lips, and begins to tilt it. You can just about see Lin waving through the glass, before losing her balance and beginning to slide down, before silently passing through the exit of the bottle into Skye’s mouth. Skye swallows once, and you briefly see a small bulge in her throat left in Lin’s wake before it disappears without a trace.

Skye does a little curtsy, and puts the bottle back down. “And that’s round one! The next one’s probably teams, oh, maybe we could do Ingredients vs guests? Nat? Don’t know how many you’ve invited, but,”

“Yeah, we should have enough, you brought your own lillies with you as well right? We can mix up teams later, so long as we keep enough guests for the cake.” Nat takes a sip of her drink, and crouches down level with the table, and addresses you, and the few other lillie guests around you.

“So if you want to be there, just win a few more, ok?” She turns to focus on you. “Don’t want to break your winning streak of one either. Don’t want to get eaten by this one, things get very crowded very quickly with her.” She tilts her head towards Skye, who pushes her lightly.

“Rude!” Skye chuckles, “just trying to be a good referee. And I’ll be sitting the next one out, probably, need to be ready for the big one. And where’s- oh there you are!” She waves someone over, carrying a plate of pasta.

Allison looks confused, but walks over anyway. “…Yeah? Oh fuck, right!”

Natalie whispers to you. “Right, you weren’t there, she’s been procrastinating about joining in for like four parties now, she lost some bet at Skye’s. Something about…” she furrows her brow, “juggling?”

Up above, Allison collects herself. “Aright, here we go. Hey, guys.” she waves nervously, still towering over everyone she’s addressing.

Skye claps once. “So, everyone,” she turns to the lillies on the tabletop, “this is Allison! She’s new- well, new-ish at this whole ‘eating people’ but she’s managing right? And she’s your new referee, for this next game.” She turns back to Allison, “the arena is yours,” she says before stepping aside.

Allison puts the plate of pasta down, and thinks about what the game should be. “Nope, nothing. Any ideas?”
