pool of beer collected at the bottom. You vaguely hear Lin’s footsteps close behind you.
You slam against a glass wall in front of you with a dull ‘plink!’, the circular base of the bottle. Lin tries skidding to a stop a little too late, and you both stumble backwards and fall to the ground.
“Nine…”
“Eight…”
“Seven…”
At least you’ve got your bearings now. Ignoring the dull pain in your shoulder, you sprint towards the exit, the bottleneck.
“Four”
The ground slopes upwards beneath you, and your steps start slipping. You fall forwards, and start crawling towards victory, with Lin almost by your side.
“One!” Skye announces, and the round hole at the end of the bottleneck suddenly darkens, the small portal to the party outside now replaced with Skye’s thumbprint, close enough for you to make out individual ridges. You reach out and push at it feebly, the firm skin not giving way.
Well.
Gravity shifts as the bottle starts tilting upwards, and you both start skidding back towards the base of the bottle, and land on the damp glass, the hollow glass tower now upright. You look up, light pouring in from the bottle’s entrance, with Skye’s deft fingers wrapped around the bottleneck.
The bottle is lifted, and you can now focus on the faces peering through the dark green glass. Skye’s triumphant visage looms high above, Natalie is leaning down for a closer look. She shrugs and tilts her head to the side, a small expression of pity, before the bottle is whisked further upwards, to level with Skye. She announces to her audience first, “So this didn’t work out for them at all, did it?” she holds the bottle up higher for all to see, guests of all sizes giving their cheers and false congratulations to you both. Lin basks in the attention, pressing herself up against the glass and pumping her fist, apparently yelling something but being drowned out by the noise outside.
“Well, our lovely host here-everyone give it up for Natalie- isn’t a fan of this stuff apparently, beer. So I guess I’ll have to reward these two, for their efforts. Nat?”
Natalie lifts her cocktail glass, “Go for it,” the bottle around you rings as Skye clinks the bottle against Nat’s glass. “Cheers!”
You both find yourself sliding across the glass base again, as the bottle is turned up. You roll over the corner onto the wall, catching yourself once it’s horizontal, spotting a glimpse of Skye’s lips waiting at the end of the tunnel, slightly open. The bottle tilts further, and you slip down the glass funnel towards the bottleneck. Lin yelps as she slides past you, gliding smoothly down the thinning tube through the waiting lips, and you lose sight of her momentarily.
Not another second later, and you’ve followed her into the bottleneck, the faint greenish light being blocked by fingers wrapped around the tunnel, then darkness as the smooth glass beneath you gives way to the warm, bumpy surface of a tongue. You come to a clumsy stop, catching glimpses of glinting teeth and Lin’s curly, now wet brown hair, before the lips close behind you, and you’re both trapped in pitch darkness.
Outside, the muffled sounds of cheering continue, and you faintly hear the bottle being placed on a table. Inside, the sounds of Skye’s breath surround you, each inhale and exhale accompanied with the squelching of the saliva-coated muscle shifting beneath you. You reach out blindly and brushing against the soaked fabric of Lin’s shirt. She begins to say something, but you’re both interrupted by the tongue softly slamming against the roof of the mouth, swiftly squeezing you towards the back of the throat.
The you collide with Lin, and you’re both swallowed together with a single, practiced gulp.
