Dirk furrowed his brow in frustration as he stared at the wall of multicolored glasses. There were just so many choices to choose from that it was nearly impossible to decide what brand he wanted.
"Rum's always good, but then again they also have Crown Royal..." he whispered as his eyes narrowed. He'd been in the ABC store for the past fifteen minutes trying to make a decision and still had yet to fill his basket with anything good.
He hated having to make tough choices, he liked his options to be nice and simple like his women. It was days like this that made him actually miss Laura. Then he thought about the divorce and how she'd taken pretty much everything in it including his official NFC championship mugs. That bitch could go to hell.
"Are you gonna buy something soon Dirk, I do have other customers you know." the cashier, Reginald asked. Dirk hated him, he hated his stupid face and his annoying accent, and his athletic build. Everything about 'Reggie' as he dubbed him made him want to crack the man in the mouth.
"Keep your shirt on." Dirk spat before just saying fuck it and grabbing the first thing in front of him. Whisky. Couldn't go wrong with whisky. They served it at the bar in Applebee's and it would work fine for him at home. He then reached for a bottle of tequila and ended his search with a bottle of Everclear.
He marched over to the register which caused the few customers present to give the angry ginger some space. Reginald remained unfazed by the taller man and the look in his eyes conveyed as much. "Will that be all today McCoy?"
"Just shut up and take my damn card." he ground out. The sooner he left this shithole the better.
Reginald nodded and took the man's card as he placed his items on the counter to be bagged. The process took less than two minutes and Dirk mentally relaxed as the transaction was finally over.
"If there's anything else you need, please, hesitate to come back." Reginald informed. Dirk took a deep breath, he really didn't feel like going to prison. Instead he flipped the cashier the bird before heading for the exit. Just as he touched the door, a large tremor shook the store.
"The hell was that?" he said as another tremor struck the earth.
"An earthquake?" Reginald asked as the customers began to panic. The tremors kept going and going in rapid succession, almost like...
They stopped...
"Is it over?" Reginald asked. He didn't want to feel anymore booms. Neither did his customers for that matter.
"How the hell should I know." Dirk answered.
"Maybe go out and check?" Reggie suggested. Dirk was about to say something until they all saw people screaming in the streets and cars zooming past them as well. They were all running from something, but what?
With their curiosity getting the best of them the customers present began to exit the store to see what all the commotion was. Sure enough what they all saw in the distance from the strip mall made them all scream and take off in the other direction. Dirk meanwhile was frozen in shock. It was a woman. A very big woman. And not just any woman either...
"Laura...?" he whispered. How!? He was broken from his thoughts when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked over to see Reginald was the one grabbing onto him.
"What are you doing Dirk? Stop dragging your feet and move your ass!"
