Heather "Freaking" Miles wasn't the same girl Edna remembered before slipping into a coma. From what she'd been able to gleam throughout the day, her former bully had completely hit rock bottom. She was either ignored by most people or on the receiving end of some glare.
Things only grew more awkward when they had classes together. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife as students and teachers alike waited with bated breath to see how the two of them would interact. Edna tried her best to ignore her and the eyes, and Heather seemed to retreat into her turtleneck like... well, an actual turtle.
Eventually it all became too much for the geek girl, the stares and whispers. She needed to talk to Heather and figure out just what in the hell happened to her. She had a pretty good idea but wanted to hear the story from her perspective. She'd been cheated out of her revenge after all, so she felt as if the mouse girl owed her something.
The nerd waited until lunch rolled around before making her move. She told her friend Ruthie that she'd join her later because she was a girl on a mission and that mission was a tall blonde that was seated in the corner of the cafeteria.
Enda was almost stunned. Heather never sat in the corner. She and her entourage always sat in the middle of the lunchroom so all eyes could be on them. That table was filled with all of the usual suspects minus the two that were in the corner. Patsy had left the lunch line to sit with her friend.
It was almost too hard to process. Heather and Patsy were seated in the corner alone while every other table was packed. The chess club was even sitting with the math league. Those two cliques hated each other the last time she checked.
For the first time in a while, Edna felt nervous. Her old fears about Heather were coming back to her as she walked through the cafeteria and ignored the conversations happening all around her. Some eyes were staring at her and followed her to where she was going. When it became clear she was headed towards Heather, most of the conversations died down.
More and more the whispers started to spread, and more and more people started to take notice. Heck, even the security guard and the janitor started to take notice. Patsy did too before altering her friend about who was fast approaching. Edna could see the blonde's eyes widened before she snapped her neck in her direction. How the girl didn't have whiplash would remain an unsolved mystery.
Edna could hear her heartbeat in her ears as she drew closer and could see the fear on Heather's face becoming more crystal clear. Why was she so afraid? She was never scared of her before. Patsy meanwhile looked a little wary but tried to hide it with indifference.
The tension kept on building and building until finally, Edna placed her tray down on the table. She might as well have slammed it because almost everyone had their eyes on her. Patsy pursed her lips while Heather tried to retreat into her turtleneck again.
The geek girl took a seat at the table and looked between the two girls that made her life difficult for years, though Heather was by leaps and bounds the biggest offender.
For a full minute there was nothing but silence. Just the deafening sound of quiet. That is until Patsy couldn't stand it anymore and finally broke it. "So, what brings you to the island of irrelevancy?"
Edna fought hard not to let her nerves show. "I want to talk to Heather... alone."
