“No.”

Yuka flinched at Lucy’s response as if struck. She had been rehearsing what she was going to say since Nana had told her every sordid detail of Lucy’s trail of bodies. She had known the second Nana finished telling her that Lucy needed to go. Forcing her out with violence was not a possibility. Yuka wasn’t showing it, but she was terrified of Lucy now. That was why she was standing ten feet from the lethal former horned girl, any closer and she knew her knees would start shaking. She had come to face Lucy with the only weapon she had, logic.

If she confronted Lucy with everything she’d done and told her that being here was only hurting Kouta, she had been sure Lucy would leave. She had expected many responses from Lucy ranging from begging to anger. What Yuka had pictured happening after she confronted Lucy had been her to back away and leave Kouta alone. It never occurred to her once that Lucy would argue with her. That she would say ‘no’ so thoroughly never crossed her mind. Yuka was left speechless if only for a second by Lucy’s simple response.

“If you have nothing else to say, I have to get back to cleaning,” Lucy offhandedly declared and bent over to pick up the washcloth. She looked back up to see Mayu gaping angrily at her.

“You’re a monster you have to go away!” She screamed loudly, like Lucy would understand the logic if she said it louder. Lucy had to leave now that she knew everything, she wouldn’t dare stay here now that her secret was out. It didn’t make any sense to Yuka at all. Lucy was evil and now that it had been discovered, she would flee. It was as simple as that. But then why wasn’t she leaving.

“No I don’t,” Lucy casually replied as she cleaned the windows. She wasn’t looking at Yuka as she talked, finding her work much more interesting. She had been worried when Yuka had called her a monster, worrying that maybe she would attack her. Lucy wasn’t so much worried about being hurt by the angry girl, but worried about reacting out of instinct and either killing or eating the outmatched human. Her body worked mostly by instinct, stopping bullets from hitting her, pushed enemies back or swallowing nearby people purely on impulse. If she was attacked, the enemy would either be cut in two or looking into a foot wide mouth.

Lucy had been worried that Yuka would attack her, but by looking her in the eyes, Lucy could see that the girl wasn’t going to do anything. She was too sacred, it was written all over her face. All throughout her speech she had not once made eye contact with Lucy, a clear sign of fear. If the lack of eye contact wasn’t enough, Lucy could smell the fear with her hypersensitive sense of smell.

With her nose, Lucy had a second sight. She could tell the location of a human from a hundred yards away and pick up subtle emotions from them like murderous intent. It was one of the methods she used to locate the rapist last night. He had been secreting so much murderous intent and lust; Lucy had picked him up a block away. Yuka was also secreting a scent, but hers was of pure unadulterated fear.

“Yes you do!” Yuka screamed back. She wanted to throttle the girl, but like Lucy surmised, the fear kept her at bay. She may not of been able to hurt Lucy, but Yuka had one weapon she thought could stop Lucy once and for all. “You have to leave or Kouta will be hurt!”

Lucy stopped cleaning and she looked at Yuka. Her face was twitching, like she was trying to get something out, but couldn’t find it. Yuka looked at Lucy’s face with triumph. She had beaten the monster with the one thing she cared about and now she was going to leave. Logic would make Lucy leave her forever and protect Kouta from her evil grasp. As she congratulated herself on beating Lucy without lifting a finger, the pink haired girl found the emotion that had eluded her.

“WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!”

“You’re so pathetic,” Lucy managed to say between bouts of laughter. She held her sides as the laughter just kept on coming. She knew she had to stop soon or she’d hurt her throat. Laughing wasn’t something Lucy did often and her throat was having trouble producing the high pitched cackles. It wasn’t that she never laughed, it was just that usually her laughter was much deeper because someone was either being digested or mutilated. The happy, soft laughter coming from Lucy was not something usually heard from her mouth.

“What?” Yuka muttered in complete shock. She couldn’t understand why Lucy was laughing, but she knew it was directed towards her. She weakly asked, “Why am I pathetic?”

“Because,” Lucy began, wiping the tears from her eyes. She looked at the fragile human girl with a smirk and explained. “You’re speaking for Kouta like you really know him. You go on about trying to keep him safe, but from what? You may claim that you only want the best for Kouta, and I think you really believe that, but in your mind, what’s best for Kouta is him being with you.”

“And what if it is? He would be happy with me and safe. That’s all that matters!”

“Safe, maybe. But I’m not sure if he would really be happy with you. Kouta’s a grown man that needs to make his own decisions about what makes him happy. He doesn’t need some incest obsessed girl making the decisions for him. You’re trying to manipulate his feelings into your argument as if they were truth. But you can’t know what Kouta feels or what makes him happy. If I’m going to leave for Kouta, maybe he should have a say in this?”

Lucy tilted her head, smirking at Yuka’s dazzled expression. She had gotten under the mangy girl's skin and she was speechless. Probably going back to the tired spiel about her being a monster and having to leave. If that’ how she feels, fine. If Lucy could have come up with a reason for Yuka to leave, she would use it relentlessly to get the rival to Kouta’s heart out of the picture. It only made sense that Yuka would do the exact same thing.

Yuka was shocked again, not by Lucy’s refusal to leave, but because some how she had turned this around making her seem like the bad guy. How could she make her look bad? She was the one with the four invisible arms and cannibal diet. Her face turned bright red and with as much malice as she could muster, Yuka responded.

“Do you know why I’m speaking for Kouta? Because he doesn’t know what you are! If he knew the evil that you've committed, I’m sure he would hate you forever.”

“Then you don’t know him well enough,” Lucy haughtily told Yuka who blinked back in ignorance. Lucy lowered her head to hide her smirk. Yuka knew a lot about her past, but she was completely clueless about recent events. She didn’t know that Kouta had remembered what she had done and not only did he not hate her, he had somewhat forgiven her for her monstrous sin. That small little fact would shut Yuka up good, leaving her with no ammunition against Lucy. Maybe after seeing how some people can forgive the most horrible thing, she’ll drop this whole monster thing. Lucy may of acknowledged to herself that she was a monster, but that didn’t mean she liked being reminded of it constantly.
