Just being around her was intoxicating for the mysterious robed man, and he certainly wished he could have met Tifa under different circumstances...circumstances that would have allowed him to enjoy this moment...this moment of reunion after all these painful years of solitude. Even now, as this angel-like girl was being exposed to suffering and pain beyond anything one could possibly imagine - suffering and pain someone like her would have never deserved - an aura was emanating from her that was even able make him forget his own pain that had left deep scars inside his soul.
"Tifa..." he whispered again, looking into her angelic face, saddened by the expression of pain in her face. Whosoever did this to her would pay for his vile deeds, that much was clear for him at that moment. After all, getting rid of the cause of her pain was his main objective, the only thing he could think while firmly holding Tifa in his arms. And he had not a single doubt about him succeeding with his attempts to save her. He simply could not fail. Failure was not even an option for him. Not after all the time and effort he put into finding a way to save the one he cared about the most. Failure would mean the loss of any meaning for his own life, anyway. The thoughts of Tifa alone and of meeting her again one day kept him from giving into his despair in the first place.
But not only were his will and his determination remarkable. He also had another considerable advantage: he knew the source of Tifa´s pain, and he had found out how to dispose of it. It would not be easy, that much was clear, but his knowledge about this mysterious illness this angel in his arms was suffering from, as well as his other hidden abilities one might not think of when looking at him, would hopefully serve their purpose.
He then looked up from her face again, focusing on the town of Nibelheim in front of the two. Surprisingly, the town did not seem to have changed at all. Everything seemed to be the way it was, before Sephiroth turned it into a burning nightmare, especially for Tifa. He himself had witnessed the destruction of the town, and therefore, it was an almost cynical seeming discovery, seeing the town exactly the way it used to be, having been rebuilt by Shin-Ra in order to cover up the infamous "Nibelheim incident" that cost so many lives just because of the insanity and hatred of one single man...the famous SOLDIER who was said to be the sole no. 1 warrior in the entire world, with no one being able to come even close to his powers and abilities: Sephiroth, the leader of Shin-Ra´s troops that had been sent to Nibelheim on that fateful day. Sephiroth...that name alone has been haunting him for years, and whenever he heard that name or even though of it, all those painful feelings of having lost his former life came back to him, for he was the sole reason for all his pain in the first place...as well as Tifa´s...and he probably hated Sephiroth even more for that fact alone, that he had done all this to Tifa. But sometimes, amidst the pain and sorrow in his life, there were moments of hope. Hope that someday, things would return to the way they used to be, that he would find happiness and fulfillment again.
Walking toward the entrance of the town that defined his past in various ways to say the least, while holding Tifa carefully in his arms, he was beginning to wonder how Tifa would react to seeing him again once she woke up again, after he saved her. It had been some years since the last time they saw each other, and despite the deep emotional bond between the two that was still there, the circumstances were very difficult to begin with, and even though he knew that she, too, still had deep feelings for him and that she would be more than overjoyed to see him again, he was still having mixed feelings about all this.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the mysterious man in the white robes, two remarkable figures were approaching Nibelheim as well. Even though they were dozens of meters behind Glenn and Tifa, they were still able to perfectly recognize them.
"Huh? Hey, Vinnie, have you any idea who that scary guy there is?"
A teenage girl with short black hair pointed at the mysterious figure of the man in the white robe. Yuffie Kisaragi. A materia hunter (as she claims, at least) who once helped to save the planet from destruction.
"..."
A silent, creepy man, staring at the man in the white robes walking toward Nibelheim. Vincent Valentine, a former member of the Turks, ShinRa´s "bloodhounds" as they are sometimes being called. Merely a shadow of his former self, haunted by his terrible past.
A rather unusual pair to say the least, seeing that Yuffie is an outgoing and lively girl, while Vincent is a rather depressive, silent and serious man. But no matter why they wanted to go to Nibelheim together, both of them were now able to see that the mysterious man was not alone...that he was carrying someone they knew in his arms.
"Wait a sec...that´s...!", Yuffie yelped in shock.
"...Tifa.", Vincent finished the sentence for her.
But before Vincent could even say anything else, Yuffie immediately started running toward the man, being worried about Tifa, a very good friend of hers and willing to go as far as fighting that man in case he wanted to do something to her - at least it looked like a bad situation to her, since Tifa was being carried by him.
"HEY, YOU!"
The white robed man quickly stopped walking as he heard the voice of the shouting ninja girl, and he turned around in order to see her running toward him.
A few meters in front of him, she stopped, taking out her weapon - a shuriken - and bringing herself into attack position, ready to fight if necessary.
"What have you done to Tifa?!" Yuffie shouted in view of the fact that Tifa´s face was expressing extreme pain and that she was still moaning because of this, something that made her worry even more about her friend.
"You know this girl?" the man plainly asked, without any hint of emotion in his voice, most likely hiding them behind a mere facade.
"Yes, we do." a calm and serious voice replied, a voice that belonged to Vincent, who was slowly walking from behind Yuffie and then stopped next to her.
"Tifa is our friend! And I´m warning you, if you dare to...!" Yuffie shouted emotionally, but Vincent calmly cut her off by simply raising his hand before Yuffie, telling her that she should cool her jets.
"Tifa´s friends..." the man whispered at this revelation.
"That is correct. But who are you? And what are you going to do to her?"
It surely was quite an advantage for the two that Vincent was able to stay so calm in this situation, since Yuffie´s temper alone could have very well been able to cause quite some trouble in this situation.
"...If you are her friends, then I might as well tell you. Tifa´s life...is in danger."
"WHAT?!"
Of course Yuffie was shocked as she heard this horrible new revelation, making things even worse than she thought they were.
"Yes. And that is why I have to make haste and save her. Otherwise, it might be too late for her."
"W-What are you talking about?!"
But before Yuffie could show even more emotional words, Vincent once again interrupted her, being able to see that the mysterious man definitely was right about Tifa´s current state.
"If that is the case, then I propose you tell us what happened to her. We want to help her as well."
"...May I ask who you are, first?"
"My name is Vincent."
"I am Yuffie. And who the hell are you?!"
The man, looking down at Tifa´s body through his white mask, slowly began to raise his head, focusing on Yuffie and Vincent now. Still holding the beautiful girl in his arms, his mask suddenly disappeared, just like that, without him even moving a finger, revealing the face of a rather young man, without any significant features. Having removed his mask - probably by the use of magic - and still wearing his white robe, he looked at the two in front of him with an unexcited gaze.
"I am...Glenn."
"Tifa..." he whispered again, looking into her angelic face, saddened by the expression of pain in her face.
