It was Merill that got the group lost, which was a first. Merill saw a trail of gold coins leading in the opposite direction of Ohfun. Not being able to stop herself, Merill picked up every single gold coin that she can find. Genie, Louie and Melissa tried to stop her. But it was no use in the end.
"Someone's purse must've tore open" sighed Melissa as her stomach growled. Melissa had the urge to eat Louie whole, but she couldn't do that. Melissa looked at Louie like he was a piece of candy now. Because Louie WAS a piece of candy...wouldn't it be nice to feel him struggling in her nice round belly? Melissa shook her head to clear it.
Genie told Melissa what Merill and her found. Melissa only seemed mildly interested in the diary that was in one of Merill's bags.
When night came, the group came to a clearing with a river running through it. The trail of gold coins had led Merill here. But the trail of coins stopped at the clearing.
"Well, I guess we camp here tonight" said Genie. "help me with the tent, Louie"
Louie and Genie put up the tent while Merill got out the diary and read the next entry. Melissa was trying not to shove Louie down her throat by staying as far as she could to the useless magician. This tactic of Melissa's went unnoticed by the others, because Melissa teneded to stay away from her 'champion' anyway. Louie was so embarassing as a champion!
It was a cool and cloudless night. The moon wouldn't raise for hours, and there was a faint scent of cooking in the air. Maybe another adventurous group was out there somewhere, having dinner. The faint smell was making Melissa even hungier for Louie.
When the tent was raised, Genie began to pass out four sandwiches to the group.
Merill had been reading the diary, which was getting more interesting. She didn't read it aloud.
Entry 4
You won't believe where I'm writing this entry down. Or maybe you will. I'm now writing in Megan's stomach, which is tricky with no light. Ijani managed to Illuminate my diary, and the light is just bright enough to write.
Megan's stomach is cozy, despite that I want to get out. The stomach is so much softer than the sleeping beds that we brought on our journey. It was indeed the statue that turned Meg into a man-eater.
The statue is that of Eatana, the Hunger Goddess. Eatana was worshipped well over 4,000 years ago...which explains why Eatana's temple was a ruin. I never even heard of Eatana before we started on our adventure.
The story goes that Eatana loved to eat men of all sorts and of all ages. It didn't matter to Eatana what age a man was to send him down her throat. The other Gods seemed to shun Eatana's actions and banished her from Heaven. There, Eatana traveled the lands.
This is all mythology, of course. But...doesn't the temple prove that the stories are true about Eatana?
Most men seemed willing to be eaten by the beautiful Goddess..I mean, who wouldn't?? And pretty soon, there were temples of Eatana popping up everywhere.
Then, something happened to Eatana. The stories tell that a demon came and turned Eatana into a statue. The demon tried to drag the statue of the goddess into hell, but as soon as he touched the statue, the demon vanished. It was said that the statue emitted a loud burp then.
The statue of Eatana seems to contain the goddess's spirit. Why Eatana doesn't change back into a goddess is a mystery. But, it was said that any woman who touched the statue was able to eat men whole. And any men who touches the statue would vanish and the statue would burp. If a maiden was pure of heart, than the man would stay in her stomach for as long as she wanted. If a maiden was evil at heart, the man was digested and added to the maiden's body.
Meg is pure of heart, or I wouldn't be in her stomach writing this down.
Merill asked Melissa if she heard of Eatana before. Melissa had heard of the Hunger Goddess before, but didn't know that there were temples to her.
The sandwich that Melissa ate did nothing to end her hunger. She wanted to have a much larger meal; Louie.
