Naota woke to find himself in an unfamiliar room. A quick glance around didn't tell him much. It was a plain room with a cot in a corner next to an open window. The window looked out on an alley. A cool breeze entered the window along with the sounds of a modern city; there came the sounds of honking car horns, dogs barking and a booming stereo off in the distance.
Naota was tied to a chair in the center of the room. Naota looked down and saw something quite alarming. The chair was in the middle of a demonic pentagram with the words "Infernal Tavern" in the pentagram itself in fiery letters. The pentagram had evil-looking runes and sigils all over. The design made the pentagram look like a demonic head with horns.
The last thing that Naota could remember he had been exploring the offices of The Consortium. Eventually, he had decided to go outside for some fresh air. And then....
A feminine groan drew Naota's eyes to another chair in the room. The second chair sat in a corner. There sat a young woman that looked around the same age as him. She had pink hair and her skin was purplish. The woman had two....horns sticking out from her hair. In a few moments, the eyes of the woman opened to reveal black eyes with yellow pupils. The young high schooler was also tied to the chair she was sitting on. The woman looked wildly around.
"Where am I?" asked Mina Ashido. "How did we get here?!"
"I don't know" said Naota. "Evidently we're somewhere called the Infernal Tavern". Here, Naota motioned at the floor at the apparent logo of the place.
"The Infernal Tavern?" asked Mina. "That doesn't sound good. Who are you by the way? I'm Mina Ashido"
"Naota" said Naota. "Do you remember how we got here?"
"All I can remember is something swooping down at me from above" replied Mina. "I just saw a dark hood with red glowing eyes"
Naota looked around the room again for more clues. On the opposite wall that had the cot in it was what looked like a small alter that had a black cloth draped over it with a silvery pentagram on it. There was several candles on it along with a dagger and an open book. It looked like an alter dedicated to devil worship. The only light in the room came from a bare light bulb on the ceiling.
The rope that was around Mina suddenly fell to the floor. Mina stood up and walked towards the chair that Naota was tied too. Naota saw that the rope that had been around Mina looked to have been burnt off.
"How did you do that?" asked Naota.
"I freed myself with my quirk" said Mina.
Mina fiddled with the rope that was tied around Naota in the back. After many fruitless attempts at undoing the knot, Mina grunted in frustration before melting the rope away with her quirk.
"What's a quirk?" asked Naota.
Before Mina could answer there came the sound of someone approaching the room. Several people from the sound of it. Mina and Naota froze in place.
"So what's the surprise you have for us?" asked a male voice. The speech was heavily slurred.
"It had better be worth it" said a second male voice which was also slurred. "I was having the best whiskey I ever had"
"It's worth it, alright" said a feminine voice in a Scottish accent.
"Why can't we use this room?" asked the second voice from right outside the door.
There was a brief pause. "Not enough privacy" said the feminine voice finally. The three people clearly walked away from the door.
Mina and Naota waited for several more minutes before moving to the door. It was Mina that opened the door as quietly as she could. Both Naota and Mina noticed the stamp that was on Mina's hand. The back of Mina's hand was stamped with the words "under 21" in fiery red letters. Naota looked to see the same stamp on his own hand.
Mina opened the door to a long corridor. Mina and Naota exited the room the wandered down the hall.
"<Haruko?>" asked Naota with the telepathic link.
There was no response at all. Naota couldn't even sense the presence of Haruko which meant the link must've had a limited range. Either that or it was being blocked somehow. Was that even possible?
The corridor led to a wide open room that was three stories tall. Mina and Naota was on the third floor. The room had tables and booths in it along with a sizable dance floor right in the middle. There were people of all disciptions and races. Some of the patrons were plainly not human, though the majority looked human. There was only a handful of people that clearly wasn't old enough to drink.
Mina and Naota exchanged glances before moving towards the nearest staircase. The pair walked to the staircase and started to walk down it. Apparently, nobody below noticed Mina or Naota. The pair walked past several couples on the stairs but nobody took a second glance at them.
The pair eventually reached the bottom floor. The stairway was right next to the bar. The bar had all kinds of alcoholic drinks lined up on three long shelves behind the bar. The bar had nearly three dozen people sitting at it. Loud music blasted from speakers that was dotted throughout the room. There was a raised stage right in front of the dance floor although no band was currently on the stage. Huge TV screens lined the wall behind the stage. The TV screens showed a test pattern at the moment.
Mina and Naota looked for the nearest exit. It took several long moments to spot a likely exit and headed for it.
Mina and Naota made it half way across the room before a hand came to rest on Naota's shoulder. Naota slowly turned around to see a towering female with a dark hood over her head. Glowing red eyes looked down at Mina and Naota.
The woman was dressed from head to foot in black. Pale white skin was exposed here and there on the outfit which looked to have been stitched together. The woman had long white hair that reached her ankles. The woman had sizable breasts and hips. One arm of the woman had a chain wrapped around it.
"How did you two got loose?" asked the 7 foot tall woman.
"Who are you?" asked Mina who noticed that Naota had stopped following her.
"LadyDevimon, one of the owners of this tavern" said the woman.
"A digimon owns this place?" asked Mina.
"What's a digimon?" asked Naota.
LadyDevimon looked more closely at Mina. "So, you've met another digimon?"
"Briefly" said Mina. "There was an angewomon at the Dimensional Cafe"
LadyDevimon grimaced and turned her attention to Naota. "A digimon is a creature from the digital world made from the missing data from the internet"
"You're made from data?" asked Naota. "How does that work?"
LadyDevimon shrugged. "You're made from stars. How does that work?"
"Any problems here?" asked a new voice. Naota and Mina turned to face a red-headed woman with a patch over her right eye. She was wearing a simple white shirt. The red head was holding a bottle of what looked like whiskey in one hand.
LadyDevimon looked at the red-headed woman and narrowed her eyes. "No, there's no problem here. Just business that doesn't concern you, Lady Hephaestus"
"Lady Hephaestus?" asked Naota. "I thought Hephaestus was a man"
"Gods can chose which gender they are when they appear before humans" said Hephaestus.
"What is a god doing in a place like this?" asked Mina.
"To get a drink?" asked Hephaestus in a deadpan voice. She nodded at LadyDevimon before walking to a table nearby where a young man with red hair was sitting.
"You two, come with me" said LadyDevimon after a lengthy pause in which she was looking at the table where Hephaestus was sitting at. The goddess of the forge didn't look at LadyDevimon but the young man glanced in the direction of the female digimon. "There's someone that wants to meet you"
Mina and Naota exchanged glances before nodding at the demonic digimon.
