The dining room area was all terraces and wide platforms each connected by stairs and ramps. In the very center of the room stood a wide stage. The dining area resembled a football stadium. A sign on the stage said it was open Mic night which would start a hour later.
There were 20-40 booths and tables for each terrace and there were at least ten terraces. The very top terrace was for VIPs only. Haruko and Naota were seated somewhere on the sixth terrace that also held several buffet tables of all kinds and had all kinds of food.
The ceiling of the grand room was open to a night sky with a unparalleled view of galaxies and nebulae of all sizes. The restaurant was packed with people, both human and decidedly not human alike.
Haruko was leaning into the aisle as she watched the yellow octopus leave. As she watched several children came to the octopus and exchanged words that Haruko couldn't hear for they were far out of earshot.
Haruko then gave a loud belch and her stomach returned to its flat state. Naota knew that Jinyu had just been absorbed into Haruko. That fact sat weirdly for Naota; he didn't know how he was supposed to feel over the apparent death of Jinyu. Naota's thoughts were interrupted when a waitress came to the booth.
The waitress wasn't human. She looked more like a dragon or an amphibian. The waitress had a tail and an enormous belly. The waitress handed menus to Haruko and Naota.
"Hi my name is Juri and I'll be your waitress" said Juri. "Would you like drinks before we start?"
Haruko looked over the list of beverages. "A bottle of Jack Daniels"
Naota was about to order a glass of water when something in the menu caught his eye. The menu was divided into two sections: regular food and live food.
"Live food?" asked Naota.
"Yeah we serve live food" said Juri. "This your first time here?"
Naota and Haruko nodded.
"Once someone enters this restaurant they gain the ability to swallow pretty much everything whole....even people" here, Juri patted her middle. At that Haruko looked like a girl that was told she was getting a pony for Christmas.
"Excellent" said Haruko. "are you on the menu too?"
If the question startled Juri she didn't show it. She shook her head. "The waiting staff isn't on the menu"
"Makes sense...." said Naota.
"So I'm going to get Jack Daniels and...?"
"Water" said Naota.
Juri nodded and left.
Haruko and Naota looked over the menu in silence for several minutes.
"So..." said Naota. "You were mayor of Mabase?"
"Yep" said Haruko. "I bought the election....and it wasn't easy even after that let me tell you"
"You took my advice then and took over the town?" asked Naota. Haruko nodded.
"I had all the power" said Haruko. "I could get away with murder and I wouldn't be thrown out of office. With that hypnotic trance power I was drunk on power. I quickly had a bunch of what I called belly pets..." she paused here to smile as if remember a cherished memory.
"Belly pets?" asked Naota.
"That's what I called people that would rub my belly all day long if I asked" said Haruko. "I promoted people and I fired quite a lot of people. I started to embezzle money and nobody stopped me...truly nobody cared what I did in office: people just supported me no matter what I did"
"Until someone decided to depose you" said Naota.
"I never found who the mastermind was" said Haruko. "At first I thought it was lover boy and his people but it wasn't much to my surprise. Well the next election came up and....I found myself barred from town hall one day and only one day.....The very next day people no longer supported me save for my belly pets. Whatever happened that day I was barred from town hall changed everything"
"What do you mean by barred?"
Before Haruko could answer the drinks came.
"Ready to order?" asked Juri.
"I sure am" replied Revy from across the aisle. "The service here sucks"
"Wait for your turn bitch" said Haruko.
"What did you call me?!" asked Revy.
"Easy" said Juri. "Fighting is not allowed in this establishment"
"Dumbest fucking rule I heard of" said Revy.
"Revy calm down" said the man with the green tie. Revy grumbled under her breath.
"I'm in the mood for regular food" said Naota. "I'll have a hamburger and fries"
"Very good" said Juri. "And you....?"
Haruko looked over the menu one last time. "I'm going to have a live cow"
"Ah" said Juri. "Very good choice"
Juri then went over to the booth across the aisle where the woman named Revy sat. Some minutes later Juri went to the next booth which seemed to contain several members of a military.
"That's why you decided to leave" said Naota. "Because you couldn't get re-elected?" Haruko nodded.
At that moment there was what sounded like a heated argument coming from the far side of the sixth terrace nowhere near Haruko and Naota's booth. The argument seemed to involve a red-headed man and what looked like an anthropomorphic tiger. Haruko and Naota couldn't hear what the argument was about. The argument seemed to escalate when the man pulled a rather unique gun on the tiger.
" Fighting is forbidden in this establishment" came a booming voice. That seemed to stop the argument.
"What was that about?' asked Haruko. Naota shrugged and stood up from the booth.
"Restroom?" asked Haruko. Naota nodded and walked off looking for a restroom. It took Naota a few minutes to find a restroom which seemed to be for both sexes. Naota hesitated before entering the restroom.
