A moment goes by in silence.
"Tulip?" You ask into the mic while checking the red light, indicating that the phone call is in fact still active. Tulip's sigh leaks out of the loudspeaker. "So... he told you, huh?"
"How could you do this to him, Tulip?.. To my family? You know, I thought you had grown up and then you go and do something like this!" You lace into your sister, molding your words into daggers. "I was better! I was!" Tulip's shaky voice returns, you can almost see the tears in her eyes. "I love little Jet, it's just..." She stops.
"This one night.. I was watching him and Jenny. Jenny had already gone to bed, but I let Jet stay up a bit late. Well, he had really fallen asleep on my lap watching tv. Anyways, I needed to use the bathroom so I set him down on the couch. When I came back, I... I forgot he was there so I had sat on him."
Tulip continues, "I didn't even notice him there, not until he moved in his sleep. I shot up when I realized and moved him out from under me. I was worried that I hurt him, so I watched him to make sure he was okay. I thought about how tough he was. Being able to put up with so much, just like his dad. I thought about the things I used to do to you and... and I started to get that feeling.."
"What feeling?" you ask, frowning. "The feeling I used to get when I played with you. Oh god, Steve, it felt so good. Before I knew what had happened, I had put him back where he was and sat down on him again. He didn't even wake up. It was exhilarating." "Tulip!" you shout at the phone.
"I know! I know! It was wrong! I just couldn't help myself! It just felt so... amazing." She pauses. "When I was... finished... I put him to bed." That last line made you lose your cool. You lash out at your sister, "I can't believe this! Don't you have any self control? I had no idea I was letting a wild animal watch my children!"
Tulip let's a moment pass before responding. "It didn't stop with that, though. There's more." You have no words, silence lingers until Tulip decides to continue. "I tried to forget about that night, but I couldn't. I ended up playing with him after that, too. I'd wait until he was asleep and then I'd have fun with him... like we used to. I... I knew I'd gone too far when I had put him in my shoe and he woke up."
You took a look at your son; he was staring at you as Tulip let all this out, gaging your reaction. His face nearly as red as an apple.
"He was rightfully scared, and I... panicked. I told him that I was helping him practice for when his sister wanted to play with him. He said it was too rough, but I told him that that's what big sisters like to do... play rough, and that was the reason why his body is so tough. I said that if he made his sister happy, he could grow up and be big like me one day... So he let me keep playing with him after that."
The sound of Jet's chair scraping on the counter top causes you to turn, and you see him running away across the marble top, crying. Your wife walks over and scoops him up, cradling him against her chest.
You can't believe what you just heard. All this (and possibly more) was going on behind your back. You decide to...
