Cat & Mouse: Rd 2 Tiny Way Of Life chapter 28 by copier · original author: a27293

After you're finally done feeding her all the grapes, Sora decides it's time for another game. Telling you to hop back onto her open paw, she then carries you up the stairs again.

While she jaunts up to her room rather quickly, she takes just enough care holding you to keep you more or less steady, which you appreciate. However, you start feeling more apprehensive after she shuts the door behind her, and then holds her hand out and smirks down at you, posing with her other hand on her hip.

"Alright, mousey," she says, putting on a whimsical sort of air. "I think our last game was kind of too easy for me again, so I wanna see if you can do better at a lightning round. You try to survive in my room for ten minutes without getting caught, and I'm gonna chase ya around an' try to catch ya. And if I win, I get to-"

"Yeah, yeah. I think I can guess," you interrupt wearily. Although you obviously don't have the volume to talk over her or anything, she's considerate enough to at least stop talking when it looks like you're about to say something. When she's paying attention enough to notice, that is. "Anyway, no deal. Rather not get eaten again today, thanks."

Sora looks indignant at your response. "Hmph! Well, you have to do what I say or I get to eat you anyway, remember?" She counters.

"Well, if you're going to give me some impossible task just as an excuse to eat me anyway, even though we had a deal, you might as well just be breaking your word." You answer, taking up a calm, patient tone. "Come on, Sora. You know I can't stop you, but does that really make it okay for you to force me into doing whatever you want?"

Sora's face softens at your gentle reprisal. "I wasn't trying to be all mean about it" she mutters, shifting her feet under her. "I was gonna give you a handicap to make it fair..."

You sigh. "And that handicap was?"

"Actually... I was gonna let you choose. It'd be okay if it was something really hard, I don't mind losing once in a while too, you know..."

"Hmph." You cross your arms, not entirely believing her. "And if I'd said, let's say, that you can't use your hands, for example?" You ask rhetorically, not expecting an answer.

"Okay." She readily agrees, taking you by surprise.

"W-wha?" You stop and rally, and then remember who you're talking to. "All right, so what if I said no hands or mouth?" You amend, trying to get her to admit your point.

"Sure, that's fine too. And I'll have t' catch ya three times for it to count, too, how's that?" She says nonchalantly.

"Gah!" You grunt with frustration, feeling the conversation slipping out of your control. You'd been trying to make the point that she wasn't giving enough consideration to your point of view, but she just agreed to some totally game-breaking terms like it was no big deal... did she really not care if she lost the game at all?

Wait, no.... there was something else she wanted to try doing with you as well, right? You realize you'd been overlooking something.

"All right, fine." You conclude with confidence, with the kind of tone most often used for saying things like: 'checkmate': "And if I said all of that, and also no using your feet to pin me, either?" You fold your arms expectantly, looking triumphant.

"?"

Instead of looking frustrated or beaten, Sora just raises an eyebrow at you quizzically. "Well, that seems like kind of a lot, but if that's what you want... I'll just rearrange some stuff real quick first, okay?"

You're rendered speechless as she accepts your - seemingly impossible - terms, without complaint, and immediately sets you down on the carpet. Walking calmly over to the nightstand, she clumsily goes back and forth between it and the closet, arranging some sets of shoes and slippers around it to form a barricade so you can't crawl underneath. "Okay, start!" She calls out cheerfully, turning around to face you where you've been standing, remaining immobile in the middle of the floor.

You suddenly realize that you've gotten yourself into yet another high-stakes game, as the towering form of the girl in cat pajamas started merrily skipping towards you, but...

"...hm?"

Sora stops in front of you confused, and cocks her head down. "Say, why aren't you running?" She asks you, quizzically.

"Why bother?" You answer with a shrug, and start casually walking off in the direction of the nightstand. While she was holding you earlier, you'd managed to get a look at the plate of string cheese sitting on top of it from earlier. An oversight on her part, leaving that up there - technically, you could still grab it, and then you'd win the game from earlier. "You can't catch me anyway. No hands, no feet, no mouth..."

Ten minutes to grab the cheese? Yeah, this would be easy.

Turning your back on Sora, with an exaggerated shrug, you start to muse to yourself aloud as you walk away. "In other words, no way for me to lose. I wonder if this is what being the kraken must have felt..."

You trail off as an enormous shadow suddenly falls over you. Looking up, you have just enough time to see a huge, white, fuzzy tail fly overhead, and then-

WHAM!

Sora laughs as she sits down on top of you, taking you by surprise and crushing you into the carpet underneath her. "You were saying~?" She mocks you, after rocking back and forth on her buttocks a couple of times to rub it in, and then lifting slightly off you so you could hear. "Not even a whole minute in, and I got you once already - you're the one who's easy, Stevie!"

Though still pinned to the ground beneath her, trapped between the carpet and her pajama bottoms, the pressure eases up enough for you to recover your breath and shout: "Hey, get off of me! D-don't be weird!"

"Weird? Psh!" Sora scoffs, and bounces lightly up and down on top of you a couple of times, before letting up and sitting forward on her ankles. "You're the one being weird, I didn't make the rules. And besides," she looks back over her shoulder at you, as you slowly get up and catch your breath. "For someone who doesn't wanna be sat on again, you sure are being awfully slow..."

Taking the hint, you break out into a sprint, and then suddenly change direction a moment later, as Sora's massive pajama-covered rump flies overhead to come crashing down in front of you. A second later, you change direction again, and again Sora goes flying by.

You keep up this routine, running and dodging again and again, stealing glances at the clock hanging over the door when you're able. After a couple of minutes, the constant sprinting and turning is starting to tire you out, but then, the same can be said for Sora and all her jumping. Still, you know that she can afford to start slowing down a lot more than you can.

"Oof! Dang it! You're, huff, faster than you, huff, look, huh? But you can't run forever! Hngh!" Sora comes crashing down in front of you again, panting, cheeks flushed and sweaty.

With that in mind, you start working towards an end goal: while you keep trying to dodge around more or less unpredictably around the room, you start to alter your course so that ever so slowly, you work your way closer to the bed. If you can just get to cover underneath-

WHAM!

"Gotcha!" Sora huffs and sits in place for a moment, wiping sweat from her brow with a mittened hand. At this rate, her painted-on nose and whiskers would be running off soon. She was really starting to regret doing this kind of exercise in such a stuffy outfit; at least the mouse didn't have to wear a whole bunch of fuzzy clothes. Speaking of the mousey, she feels your diminutive form through her pajama bottoms as your struggling picks up.

"Yeah, yeah," she groans, looking at the clock. Just about four minutes left. Much as she'd like to take a breather, the longer she sits to rest, the less time she'd have to catch you later...

You hear Sora start talking at you as she gets up, letting you out from under her again. "I don't know why you're in such a hurry to get away from my butt... you know you're gonna end up coming out of it again later." She says, before tiredly shaking it at you, the silly fake tail attached to it flopping comically as she does so.

Instead of answering, you save your breath and take off running for the nightstand, before making a hard right and dashing straight for the bed as you hear the telltale sound of cloth rustling as Sora makes another jump. One more stretch, and maybe-

Thoom!

With a crash, Sora lands right between you and the bed, leaning back on her hands and looking down at you. "Yeah, I thought that's where you were going," she tells you, still evidently quite short on breath. "You wanna try that again?"

So saying, she lifts herself off the ground on her hands and feet, crab-walking back and forth in front of you.

...

If you run for the bed, you risk having to pass right under her, and getting caught going through.

If you run the other way, you'll be back out in the open, and it's purely a contest of endurance from there; tired though she is, you're not sure you can outlast her that way.

On the other hand, you could run straight for the nightstand. But even with the element of surprise, you'd be out in the open while you were climbing it - was that really a safe option, here?
