Home Field... Advantage? Tiny Way Of Life chapter 22 by copier · original author: a27293

You've had about enough of getting outwitted and eaten by a twelve-year-old. Rather than make the obvious play, and get caught trying to run straight for the objective, you decide that you'll try to pull a fast one on her and stash yourself right in the kitchen cupboards. Knowing your small but durable body can handle the impact, you take a deep breath and leap right off the table, tucking and rolling for a rough but successful landing on the tile floor.

Without wasting any time at all, you come up running and head straight for the kitchen sink, stopping right before the cupboard underneath. It's just low enough that you can reach up and shove it slightly open, at which point you expect you'll be able to pull yourself inside before swings closed again. Turning for one last look at the kitchen behind you, you- oh, no.

Right where you'd landed after jumping off the table, there's a distinct brown smudge where your frosted body had ground fine brown sugar into the tile. Worse, a trail of much lighter but still clearly visible little footprints marked the path that you'd taken to run towards the cabinet.

If you'd just hauled yourself into the cabinet without looking back like you did, you've no doubt Sora would have easily tracked you straight there. And then you would be one quick search away from going straight down her throat on the Sora's Belly Express, for yet another long, hot ride along the scenic route to Toiletsville. But, wherever else you ran would leave a trail there as well...

Frantic with the looming threat of losing yet another game to avoid being a young girl's snack, you initially come up with three possible approaches for getting around this serious problem:

- You could carefully retrace your steps, gather up the bits of sugar marking your footprints closest to the kitchen table, then trace your steps back and hide the stuff under the sink cabinet. Repeated enough times, you'd be left with no trail on the floor to show Sora where you've gone, but the possibility that the small, hard-to-spot pile of sugar tucked away in the corner might give you away regardless. And that's assuming you even were able to finish the whole thing in time.

- You could run back to where you first hit the floor, quickly run back and forth in several other directions to make a bunch of new, false trails, and then pick one of the places you ran to for actually hiding in. In theory, this would mean Sora would have to thoroughly search a whole bunch of places - with her little kitty mittens on, slowing down the process greatly - before she found you. If you were unlucky, though, she might just pick the right path to follow right away.

- You could run back to where you first hit the floor, climb your way up one of the kitchen chairs and then back onto the table from there, and then... go and hide in plain sight, right in the sugar bowl she'd left behind on the table. While she was busy following your tracks from the bowl, to the chair, then to the floor and under the kitchen sink, you'd be right there: buried in sugar, and further camouflaged by the layer of it covering your body. A bold and risky move, but one she surely wouldn't be expecting as she wasted time trying to search for you in all those cabinets...

Considering your options, you figure you've got just about an hour to pull off whatever you decide to go with. There won't be time to change your mind, once you've started.

What do you do?
