The mountaintop shrine

"So, this is the shrine?"
"Correct." Yayoi muttered, scanning the area around the lone shrine. The little structure was in an isolated clearing a ways up the mountain they'd hiked up to get here, far away from the main path.
No fewer than five women had gone missing here in the last two weeks, and she had a hunch that their disappearance wasn't simply a case of them getting lost while out hiking.
No, seeing the shrine before her... Yayoi knew instinctively that this had to be the work of a curse!
"Hmm? What are you doing?"
"Oh! Um... just leaving an offering for the shrine. It seems like the polite thing to do," Eiko remarked, a faint blush on her cheeks. No way she was going to tell her tiny cousin that she'd been kinda maybe sorta wishing for a blessing upon her and Keitarou... Not that their relationship was anywhere close to that point! She just thought it was a good idea, asking for lots of healthy babies for when she and Kei-kun 'sealed the deal!'
"What now, Yayoi?"
"We should speak to the locals to see if they know anything about the disappearances. Or, we can continue to search around the shrine. I'm not detecting anything unusual yet, so it might not be a curse, and simply a restless spirit, but..." She trailed off, her eyes wandering.
For a second, she thought she heard the sound of an infant crying, but it so quiet she barely heard it! Brushing it off as just the whispering of the wind, Yayoi continued walking down the mountain path.
Eiko turned away from the shrine, following her cousin down the hill.
Neither of them saw that the offering- a little piece of candy that Eiko had left in front of the shrine- had vanished!
1) Eiko and Yayoi speak to an old lady at the bottom of the mountain, who warns them to 'never, under ANY circumstances give any offerings to the shrine! Eiko starts to get nervous...
2) Eiko and Yayoi stay by the shrine, looking around to see if they can find any clues.
2A) They don't find anything, but Eiko swears she can hear a baby crying somewhere!
2B) They find the bodies of the missing women... with their bellies burst open!
2C) They find an ENORMOUSLY pregnant woman. Hey, she's one of the missing ladies!
3) They don't find anything and head down. After speaking with the old lady and later that day, Eiko's belly starts to hurt...
