"So, what's the deal this time, Yayoi?"
"I'm not sure... the results of my research are... inconclusive right now. I'll have to investigate the sight on my own more closely to find out what has been happening. But I'd like you with me."
"Okay!" Eiko smiled. Despite having been faced with the threat of a painful death, she was still raring to go! She couldn't help herself, she loved the thrill of hunting for the ghosts!
"So... what do you know about this case?"
"Like I said, there are still details I'm figuring out. But it seems that the haunting involves a mansion owned by a rich family a few cities away. One of the regular, *ahem* visitors of the house was a prostitute..."
Eiko frowned at that. She really felt Yayoi was too young to be talking about that sort of thing.
Yayoi continued speaking.
"Well... I don't know the exact number, but apparently rather than giving birth to any of her children, she had the pregnancies terminated each time. I don't know the exact number of how many fetuses were killed, but one day, the woman died of a massive hemorrhage. Since then, there have been numerous reports from other people claiming that they've seen the woman who died wandering around the mansion, as well as the wails of infants. Nobody has concrete proof, but it's quite certain that the mansion is haunted, either by the woman herself, the fetuses, or both. The mansion was abandoned soon after the rumors spread- about 10 years ago, and it has since fallen into disrepair. There have been a number of break-ins reported by the police, either from thieves, treasure hunters, or other people looking to loot the mansion."
"Okay... that makes sense." Eiko stated, not really liking where this was going. It DID make sense- if the mansion had been abandoned in short order, it was likely that there were still a great deal of valuables leftover inside. Enough that any treasure hunter would find the place an ideal target for looting.
"There's more."
Huh?
"The police of the city have been keeping this a secret from the public, not wanting to cause a panic, but... there have been at least a dozen deaths in that mansion. All female."
"Oh, no... Don't tell me-" Eiko whined, hoping Yayoi wasn't going to say what she thought she was.
"Yes, just like the police officer involved with the Annunciation House case, the women who died in that mansion exploded. I'm unsure of how, exactly. But I have a pretty good idea. Unlike with the Annunciation House and the 'angels' curse, there has been no evidence found of what made those women explode, but... the physical remains show that their abdomens must have been enormously 'overstuffed,' leading to them bursting open."
"Aww... It's just like that scary house all over..." Eiko whined.
"Relax, I've learned from my mistakes. Nothing will happen to you this time, Eiko. But- we both should be on our guard. The mansion's cursed energy is S-ranked!"
Eiko wasn't looking forward to this, but if Yayoi asked her to go, then she'd go.
Thus began the saga of The Reluctant Mother!
