When Shinji heard his name called out, he went stiff, and not n the good way. Shinji’s muscles locked up and he sweat started to form on his forehead. He licked his lips nervously and slowly turned around to face the person that had called out to him. Since arriving in this bizarre, but wonderful world, Shinji had heard little about this person other then he was in rough shape. However, to Shinji he didn’t look browbeaten at all. The man still had with the same upright posture and cold stare behind tinted glasses that he remembered well.
“Hello, father.”
An uncomfortable silence settled over father and son, neither made a sound as they looked at each other. Shinji had no idea what was behind his fathers reptilian eyes, for all he knew, the man could be thinking about new ways to torment his only son. What Gendo thought was a mystery to Shinji and he wanted to keep it that way. With his father, the less he knows and sees, the better.
“Are you well, third child?” Gendo asked with his normal level of detachment. “I heard you were recently shrunken and stayed with Miss Katsuragi until Doctor Akagi could create a cure. I hope you were taken care of properly by Miss Katsuragi.”
“Misato took real good care of me,” Shinji apprehensively said. Misato took care of him all right, in so many ways. He became flush at some of the more memorable ways Misato made his time small more enjoyable. He was going to really miss sleeping in her colon.
“That is good.”
Silence settled again, as the only bit of conversation they could think of had been used. Shinji lowered his eyes after awhile, pondering if his father was here because he had been genuinely concerned about his safety. A small part of him wanted to believe that it was true, but a bigger part of him that remembered all the neglect this man has displayed towards him, argued that his father had an ulterior motive for speaking to him.
Finally, Shinji’s father spoke up again. “Shinji, we should go to my office. I have some important things we must discus.”
“Can it wait? Misato is waiting for me in the car. She really wants to get home soon, so we can have some…” Shinji abruptly stopped speaking. He had gotten so nervous that he had nearly said something no boy wants to say in front of their father. Gendo narrowed his beady eyes at Shinji and lifted his upper lip in a scowl.
“Sex?”
Shinji remained silent. He was actually going to use a different a word, a much vulgar word, but sex would do.
“This is wrong, this is all wrong,” Gendo groaned. The air of coldness disappeared as the frustration Gendo had been feeling finally showed himself. Gendo slumped forward, moaning softly and rubbing the bridge of his nose. The stress from keeping it together was finally taking its toll on Gendo. He could no longer look at the depravities around him and not be disgusted. He looked up at his son, his glasses falling off to expose blood shot eyes.
“Fix it,” he muttered angrily. He needed his stability and control back. In this world filled with strangeness and lust, he had no power. He wanted it back, no matter what the cost.
“What?” Shinji responded.
“Fix the world!” Gendo barked, making Shginji jump back. In a much calmer voice he continued, “I hate this filthy world. Make it normal again, no, better! Don’t lie to me and tell me you can’t do anything. I know the reason everything has gone wrong is some how connected to you. Make it better or else.”
Shinji stared at his father with shock, confusion and terror. He had no idea how Gendo knew he was responsible for what was going on and he also had no clue how to tell him he had no clue about how to change what he did. A thought surfaced to Shinji’s mind, even if he could turn the world back to the way it was, would he. The answer was an emphatic no. He loved this world where he was free and wouldn’t change it for anything. But could he say that to the man that had him under his thumb since he was a child?
“Hello, father.”
