“I think I’ll…” Misato tapped her chin pensively, drawing out her answer as long as possible. “…Keep him inside me for a few more hours.”

The albino looked like she was trying to sneer at the older woman, but her face was having trouble moving after years of motionlessness. Sighing, Misato dropped the pleasantry and tried explaining to Rei why she couldn’t see Shinji right at this moment.
“Rei, I know you want to ‘talk’ to Shinji, but you have to understand something. A lot of girl want to ‘talk’ with Shinji and if they had it their way, they would ‘talk’ with him all day and night. To keep that from happening, there’s an unwritten rule that we each get time shares. Asuka had him this morning, I have him the afternoon and was planning to keep him for the evening, but due to Ritsuko’s unnecessary paperwork, I’m going to be busy all night. Therefore, there’s a shift opening this evening that you can use to ‘talk’ with Shinji. You can ‘talk to him anyway you like for the whole evening, now doesn’t that seem fair?”
Rei was silent, processing the information. It seemed fair, somewhat, but she still had the urge to see Shinji right now.
