“I’m sorry,” Shinji very self-consciously said to the guard without looking him in the eyes. “I didn’t know Nerv was closing so soon.”
The guard huffed and told Shinji in a gruff tone, “Ya, new rules from the boss. Security is being tightened because of a recent string in break-ins.”
“Break-ins?” Newfound fear filled Shinji, he remembered the last people to break in to Nerv and how horrible that had been. When the JSSDF invaded Nerv in the old world, they killed everyone they could find in the most brutal fashion imaginable. Shinji had been hiding at the time, lost in his own misery, but he had heard the screams as countless Nerv employees were butchered.
“A whole bunch of them,” the guard nodded with a frown. “People keep sneaking in and start messing around. They eat one another and when they pop back up in Nerv a few seconds later, they do it all over again. Freaken Pervs.”
“Yep, pervs,” Shinji replied, hiding his smile and shaking his head in disbelief at the newfound perversion of the world he lived in. He had been afraid of nothing, again. All the things he once feared, danger, loneliness, hate, seemed absent from this strange, but wonderful place. Ha had looked for the downside to his new home, but found nothing to worry about.
