Walking out the door, with the sudden realization that his father was at best a shut-in, a worst utterly insane in his new paradise, was liberating to say the least. Ever since arriving, he had been worried that someone would find a way to ruin the setup, to ensure that he would be forced to do something he would hate, and the cycle of abuse, distrust, and as Asuka put it that one time "Emo Kid Shinji" would begin again.
Judging by the looks of envy from the female staff members in the hallways of NERV, the distrust was replaced with an utterly bizarre level of attention. Trying to look busy so as not to draw suspicion, Shinji began heading towards what he remembered as NERV's main archive. Whatever "Operation Giga" was, the archive would have the answer. Best of all, he wouldn't need to prod people over the answers.
Everything luckily was where he remembered it, so it was easy enough to sit down and view the records. Even his NERV security clearance remained the same, allowing him easy access to where he needed to go. The similarities, however, seemed just as odd to Shinji as the various differences. Where was the major divergence?
Sitting down in front of a computer terminal near a long line of similar terminals, he typed "Operation Giga" into the search engine that had been set up. A myraid of results soon followed, leaving Shinji with a wealth of information. Settling on "Operation Giga- The threat of the Angels and the Aftermath, Shinji began reading through what was apparently a debriefing. The author surprised him- Misato Katsuragi.
"Misato wrote this?" he wondered aloud, clicking on the document.
September 2015- Origin of the Angels codenamed "Eden Point" found near Guam. Plans are immediately drawn up to launch a full-scale invasion after confirmation that all Angels apparently descended from this position. To supplement the Evangelion fighting force, "Operation Giga is launched," an attempt to use Lilith DNA to give soldiers control over personal AT fields. Of the initial 10 subjects, only three were initially successful. The decision was soon made to transfer pilot of Unit 00 Rei Ayanami from EVA piloting duties to heading the ground invasion with the other experiment subjects, now code named Lilith soldiers on grounds that there were sufficient Evangelion units being fielded. Full scale invasion is soon authorized by Commander Gendo Ikari.
The plan sounded like insanity to Shinji. He knew first hand what Lilith was capable of. More importantly, what the hell were the Lilith soldiers that it would justify leaving an EVA unit in its cage when a battle was about to begin? But if Lilith created this world, then...
Shrugging aside those questions, he continued reading.
October 12 2015- Operation Giga launched. The origin of the Angel units is completely destroyed in the ensuing battle by the combined effort of Evangelion units and Lilith soldiers. NERV reports 100% destruction of enemy stronghold. Details of the exact nature of operation classified under Security Clearance I-D.
November 1, 2015- People in the Guam area report cravings for humans, to literally eat and digest them, not long after Operation Giga was concluded. Initially dismissed as hyperbole and local superstition, reports continue to enter about cases of people having been swallowed whole. NERV sends observers after reports of cases having spread from Guam to Indonesia despite the oceanic boundaries. The reports of people being eaten and digested somehow ending up in varying places was confirmed by observers.
November 30, 2015- Cases of human cravings now reported in nearly every major settlement. The fact that the digested humans are simply sent elsewhere rather than permanently killed averts riots. Civilian governments soon adopt guidelines towards digestion mostly due to the cases of the reformed bodies not having clothing. Clothes sales skyrocket as a result, pushing demand for cheaper fabrics.
December 2, 2015- NERV concludes a definitive connection between the destruction of the Angels and the ensuing worldwide cravings. Taskforces are soon developed to analyze the situation.
Investigation is currently ongoing.
"So is mine," Shinji spoke aloud. The key to all of this was an attack on an Angel breeding ground, which to him, didn't seem to be conclusive with the information on the Angels from the other world, namely, that they were spontaneously generated. Undettered, he began looking for information on the exact event occurrences, finally finding a report. A tap on his shoulder however, prevented him from viewing the information.
"Mr. Ikari?"
Turning around, Shinji saw a man in a NERV uniform, most likely a staff member in this section.
"What is it?"
