"So..." said Amarao after a very lengthy pause. "You brought us here to settle a simple coup d'état?"
"A coup d'état that threatens our very world" corrected Wiorth. "You see, the Black Witch has ties with the Gaareal Empire which has the technology to send people to other worlds"
The Black Witch turned towards Wiorth and said, "Alleged ties since you have no proof of that I'm working for the empire"
Wiorth looked sheepish. "True, I have no absolute proof of that" said Wiorth.
"Don't you have any people to investigate that?" asked Kitsurubami. "Why do you specify need us?"
"We can't spare any troops to investigate the Black Witch" said Wiorth. "All of our troops are busy fighting a war with the AOM"
"The what now?" asked Amarao.
"The AOM" said the Black Witch. "The Alliance of Monsters, the country that borders ours to the east. It started as a small country nearly two centuries ago and it has gradually gotten bigger and bigger ever since"
"Can you send us back to our world?" asked Haruko.
"That can be arranged" said Wiorth. "Although not right away because the ingredients for that spell are hard to come by"
"Of course they are" said Haruko, letting out a long sigh.
"I think the more important question is whom you believe" said the Black Witch. "Do you actually believe that I work or have any ties with the Gaareal Empire?"
"Why would we believe in anything that Wardo saids?" asked Haruko.
"Wiorth" corrected Wiorth. "I'm telling you the truth. The Black Witch does have ties with the---"
"You have no proof of that though" said Amarao. "So...you want us to investigate this Black Witch to see if she's working for this empire? I say we don't take no sides until we learn more about this new world"
"As much as I hate to agree with Lover-Boy here, he makes a good point" said Haruko. "We have no stakes here. We have no reason to believe in what anybody says"
Wiorth looked crestfallen. The Black Witch raised an eyebrow. Silence hanged in the ruined library for several long minutes.
"You said that this Gaareal Empire has the technology to send people to other worlds?" asked Naota.
"We're not sure about that technology" said Wiorth. "We don't know that much about the empire for that matter. Twenty years ago, they just appeared in this world as if by magic and started to conquer one country after another with weapons that clearly didn't come from this world"
"The empire is setting their eyes on the AOM these days" said the Black Witch. "But they haven't started a war with them as yet"
Before anyone could say more, another person entered the room. It was an astonishingly beautiful woman with flowing silver hair. It took a minute for Naota to notice that the woman had long pointed ears. The woman had a bow slung on her back and was wearing chain mail armor. She walked to the edge of the circle in the center of the room.
The elf woman surveyed everyone in turn before she spoke in a rich voice, "Who summoned these people here?"
"Guardian Renien, It's so good to see you" said the Black Witch.
"Answer my question, witch" replied Guardian Renien. "Who summoned these people here and why?"
"I did, Guardian" said Wiorth. "I summoned them to help me investigate the ties that the Black Witch has with the Gaareal Empire"
Guardian Renien turned to face Wiorth. "I believe I said that I would look into that matter the last time we met. There was no need to summon people from another world to prove your petty theories"
"Who are you?" asked Naota to Guardian Renien.
"I am Renien, Guardian of Telemasa" said Renien turning to face Naota. Renien had golden eyes.
"Forgive me, Guardian" said Wiorth. "You were getting no results"
"Look, is there somewhere where we can stay?" asked Ninamori. "I don't know about any of you but I'm tired"
"There's a city about a hour away" said the Black Witch. "I can escort all of you there in a moment. Guards, arrest Wiorth for the crime of summoning outlanders here"
Haruko blinked. "There's an actual law for that?!"
Renien nodded. "It was outlawed because it was considered unethical to summon people from other worlds"
"Imagine that" said Haruko.
