Revy glided through the warm night air. This was only the third or fourth time she had flown long distances. She was getting used to her huge wings. Revy had the wingspan of nearly forty feet. Revy didn't need to flap her wings to stay aloft just like birds. Revy was perhaps five hundred feet above the ground. Revy couldn't get to sleep so she had decided to take a long flight to see what was around.
Half of the night sky was dominated by an entire spiral galaxy. The galaxy was probably less than 100 light years away but Revy was sure as shit no expert. The galaxy was close by galactic standards. It was an awesome sight to be certain.
The planet had two small moons that were pretty much the same size. There were absolutely no light pollution in the sky.
Revy was flying in a southeast direction. The forest went on and on for miles and miles. At length, the forest gave way to grassy plains. Revy glanced down to see old ruins right below her. On a whim Revy landed right in the middle of what looked like an old temple complex. The complex consisted of ten buildings. One of the more ancient buildings had a huge tree growing out of it with thick roots.
Revy looked around. It was apparent that the temple complex was dedicated to the worship of dragons judging by all the murals painted on the buildings themselves. The murals were all faded with age and was heavily overgrown with ivy. There were stone cravings and statues that depicted dragons of all shapes and sizes. Revy could only chuckle as she surveyed the ruined murals and carvings more closely. Some of the murals depicted benevolent dragons while other murals depicted malevolent ones.
As the wind shifted direction Revy caught the whiff of raw meat. She followed the scent to a huge offering plate that was made out of pure gold. The offering plate was actually inside of a crumbling building that had no roof to it. The plate was at the feet of a huge statue of a dragon. The plate had a large pile of food on it. Revy also caught the scent of people nearby, although they were out of sight. Revy glanced up at the statue before digging into the raw meat on the plate. The meat was pretty much fresh.
Once Revy had eaten her fill, she heard footsteps behind her. Revy slowly turned her head to look down at a young man with dark brown hair that was dressed in a tee shirt and jeans. The man was slightly trembling at the sight of Revy.
Revy had no trouble in seeing in the dark. Her dragon eyes allowed Revy to see in the dark so much so that night was practically daylight to her. Revy could tell, however, just how dark it would appear to humans. It was by no means pitch black with the moonlight of the twin moons and that of the galaxy in the sky but it was pretty dark.
"What the fuck are you looking at?" asked Revy after a lengthy pause.
The man seemed transfixed by Revy's appearance for a silent moment before he spoke.
"That offering was meant for Lucoa" said the man who bowed his head almost imperceptibly.
"Who's Lucoa?" asked Revy.
"That'll be me" answered a feminine voice. Revy looked around to see that a woman with large breasts had suddenly appeared from behind a stone pillar. It took Revy a moment to spot the horns on the side of the woman's head and the ordinary baseball cap she was wearing. The eyes of the woman were odd.
The woman approached the offering plate and took a hunk of meat from the pile and started to eat it.
"You're not human" said Revy to the woman. It wasn't a question.
"Well spotted" said Lucoa, her voice filled with sarcasm. Lucoa then looked at Revy up and down. "And who are you?"
"Call me Revy" said Revy.
"Hmmm...a human name if I'm not mistaken" said Lucoa.
"Yeah...I was knocked into a vat of a chemical that turned me into this" said Revy.
"So you're a false god?" asked the man who had walked closer to Revy.
"Well, I definitely feel like one in this body" said Revy with a laugh.
"Arthur here comes from a nearby village that worships dragons" said Lucoa.
"Yeah, I kinda figured" said Revy, gesturing at the surrounding temple complex.
"My people used to worship dragons" corrected Arthur. "Some of us still do. It's more of a cult nowadays. Since Lucoa showed up two weeks ago, the dragon cult has grown"
"So, you're a real dragon?" asked Revy to Lucoa.
"Yep" replied Lucoa. "I was even a goddess but that was years and years ago"
"You're still a goddess" said Arthur in a quiet voice.
Lucoa sighed. "I keep telling you I'm no longer a goddess"
"Blame my parents" said Arthur. "they taught me to revere dragons and it's hard to give up that habit"
"You used to be an actual goddess but not anymore?" asked Revy.
"She was demoted cause of some kind of scandal involving her younger sister" said Arthur.
"Could we not talk about that, please?!" pleaded Lucoa who was blushing.
"Interesting..." said Revy. "so your village worships dragons?"
"Some of us still do" said Arthur. "if I were to guess, a little less than half the village still practice dragon worship. It has fallen out of favor ever since the dragon war of one thousand years ago"
"Dragon war?" asked Revy.
"I should explain" said Arthur. "this planet used to be the home of a race known as Somales who tried to outlaw dragon worship. That didn't go over that well with Zorkanles, the dragon god at the time. Zorkanles encouraged his human followers to go to war with the invading Somales. To make a long story short, the tactics that Zorkanles used in the war was so vile that even his followers turned against him. Eventually, the Somales were driven off of this world due to the atrocities that Zorkanles employed against them"
"I was in a ruined city earlier" said Revy. "that had really advanced technology"
"That was probably a city that the Somales built" replied Arthur. "they were a highly advanced race while the human population at the time was very primitive in comparison. When the Somales were driven off, the humans at the time decided not to move into the abandoned cities left behind by the Somales. They were very much against technology for some reason. My guess is that the humans at that time were too scarred to use the technology of the Somales"
"Fascinating.." said Lucoa.
"Why did you ask about my village worshipping dragons?" asked Arthur.
Revy grinned widely, revealing nearly all of her fangs. "Because your village just got another god"
