"Chief! Hey! Chief!"
The sunlight washed over the forest and Naruto slowly opened his eyes, rising from the forest grass as he opened his eyes. Any sign that had eaten another person whole was gone from his body, looking the same as it always had. Even better, the hunger that had been gnawing at him was satiated. Whether it was permanent or temporary, he still didn't know. While he enjoyed the relief of the hunger being gone, not to mention the sweet aftertaste of the woman's 'pork buns', he was still unsure when or if the craving would return. And there were only so many female enemies of the state he could eat.
"Hey Chief, whadaya doin on the floor?"
"Huh?"
Turning around, Naruto opened his groggy eyes and found Kohonomaru standing above him, his face curious.
"How long have you been here?!" Naruto shouted.
"About an hour. I saw you lying on the ground and was wondering what was going on."
An hour. That was a relief. That meant there was no possible way that Kohonomaru could have viewed his...steps to preserve state security. Yeah, preserve the state's security, he kept reminding himself. Eating Temari was his civic duty.
But that meant...
"What were you doing out here for an hour?"
"It's cool! You know, it's almost 10:00 anyway. People were going to wonder what a guy was doing in the forest asleep."
"Wow," Naruto spoke aloud. Time sure flies after a big meal.
"Oh, Chief? What are those papers?"
"Papers?" Naruto asked, before picking up what he recognized as the documents. "Oh, this is stuff I needed to get to Kakashi later."
"Whatever," the young man said as he walked off. Naruto was just happy that no one was witness to what he had done. And more importantly, the hunger had ebbed. Smiling at what he had accomplished, for Kohana and himself, he walked back into the village, a familiar grin on his face.
