Safe, But Not Feeling Too Secure

Naruto and keiji turned to where Naruto had heard something move. They watched carefully for one of the crazed stalkers to reveal themselves, ready with their blades in hand. Instead of a hungry girl, they got a fat brown rat scurrying across the floor. It stopped once to look at the two humans with it’s beady eyes, before turning tail and leaving through a crack in the wall. Letting their guards down, Naruto and Keiji sat down on the crate full of explosives and tried to cool their nerves.
“I guess, I’m lucky that I’m not made of cheese or we’d have to worry about the rats trying to eat me too,” Naruto joked.
“Personally, I’d much rather have the rats after you then twenty-three skilled shinobi,” Keiji shot back. Both of them chuckled softly, not so much because of the joke, but rather they needed to laugh to keep from crying. Out there, in their own village, over two dozen crazy ninjas, carrying huge skewers were hunting them down to eat Naruto. Some were just out of the academy, but others they knew could be Chunin or even Jonin. Against someone with that much training, even their explosives would be ineffective.
“So Doc, we know that Sakura is one of the twenty-three, but who else do we know is after me?” Keiji looked at Naruto, who was without his trademark sonny smile. His question was a good one. They had run into a few girls so far, but there were still many left. While they had nothing to do, they could best use the time to figure out who they could confirm as one of the twenty-three stalkers. Naruto had actually come up with a good idea. Well, a stopped clock does tell the right time twice a day.
“Other then Sakura, we know that Hinata is after you.” Naruto nodded, that had come as a shock. The strange girl liked him, who’d have ever thought it?
“We ran into Ino, TenTen and…um…. Blondie?” Naruto said, shrugging as he said the last name. He knew that she had told him when they saw her, but it escaped him at that moment.
“Temari,” Keiji sighed. It wasn’t that hard of a name, but somehow Naruto just couldn’t remember it. “And Sakura told us that Shizune and Garaa were also heard talking about eating you, but since she was after you, we can’t take what she said at face value.”
“Great, we now have eighteen or sixteen unknown people after me, some of which could or could not be male. Crap, I need a bowl of ramen.” Some men drink, Naruto eats ramen. It was his only way to cope with all the stress of being a shinobi.
Naruto looked around him, feeling claustrophobia starting to set in. they were sitting ducks down here. Outside, all his stalkers could be waiting for a chance to slip in and eat him. Maybe there were more stalkers then the original twenty-three, maybe everyone was out to get him. Maybe those cold eyes he had grown up around were actually hungry leers. He knew it was his paranoia talking, but it did nothing to cool him down. Nervously, he turned to Keiji, who looked as lost as him.
“Hey Doc, can I ask ya something?”
