Suddenly, James's skin turned brown and papery and he shrunk to the size of a lunchbox and the rest of his body became burgers within his skin. Meanwhile, Chloe, being the rough and tough woman that she was, pushed aside her daughter mumbling under her breath against the fat neighbor's weird kid. when she saw the bag she smiled.
"Ah! Your food is here. I'm going out to supper in an hour so this is all yours, I ordered your favorite, Chinese food." Said her mother dismissing the shocked eyes of her daughter and picking up the bag and carrying it to the kitchen. As she opened it she swore loudly claiming they had mixed up their order but she was too lazy to call back and get them straightened out. As she laid out the food on the counter. the chill wind of autumn crept in and she realized a good fire in the hearth was in order, so she put the burgers on plates and took all the wrappers and papers, placed them in the hearth in the living room and ignited them to heat up the house.
James was terrified, unsure what to do as he witnessed part of him go up in flame, oddly enough it didn't hurt. it simply felt hot and dry but strangely pleasurable but the shock and panic within him was overwhelming his pleasure, never having been separated from parts of himself before, he wasn't sure what would happen to him. Maya was paralyzed from fear, horrified at what she had just witnessed and scared of what was to come. She then felt an icy chill go down her spine and knew immediately why, her mother was once again glaring at her. She did that whenever Maya did not do what was asked of her and that glare terrified her to the core, enough for her to silently but nervously sit down on a kitchen chair waiting for her friend to be fed to her.
Suddenly a loud, wet and organic gurgling and groaning sound echoed in the kitchen. Chloe was starving. She then pondered whether she should simply eat the present food and give Maya some money for food later in the evening or continue as planned and wait until she went out with her friends.
