You begin your ascent. The wrinkled landscape of your mother's sole is a grotesque mountain range. Each wrinkle is a deep canyon, and the pad of her heel is a plateau of hardened, calloused skin. The smell is overwhelming—a thick, musky cocktail of sweat, dust, and the faint, sour tang of worn leather from her slippers earlier. It's a humid, suffocating atmosphere that clings to you, making each movement feel sluggish.
Your hands sink slightly into the softer, filth-encrusted crevices, finding purchase in the grime itself. You pull yourself up, your minuscule muscles burning with the effort. The sheer scale of Eleanor is dizzying. From your vantage point, you can see the colossal curve of her calf rising into the sky like a fleshy pillar, disappearing beneath the hem of her loose-fitting yoga pants. The fabric is a vast, cotton-colored cliff face that stretches upwards into the heavens of the living room ceiling.
You're making good progress, about halfway up the arch of her foot, when disaster strikes. Without warning, the entire world shifts violently.
Eleanor, lost in her book, flexes her toes.
It's a cataclysmic event!
Your fingers dig desperately into the gritty, leathery skin of your mother's sole as the ground beneath you buckles and contorts. You manage to maintain your grip, your knuckles white with strain as you cling to the shifting terrain. For a terrifying moment, you're suspended horizontally over a chasm-like wrinkle, the dusty depths yawning below you.
But her flex doesn't stop. It's a slow, deliberate stretch. The ball of her foot rises, lifting you with it, while her heels press down, grinding into the couch cushion. The angle becomes impossibly steep. You're like a climber on a rock face that is tilting backwards into the abyss. The sheer force of gravity, amplified by the movement, becomes too much. Your grip fails.
With a cry, you lose your hold and tumble downwards. You don't fall far—only a few inches from your perspective—but it's a chaotic, uncontrolled descent. You bounce and skid down the steep slope of her arch, scraping against the rough, dry skin. The journey ends abruptly as you slam into the soft, yielding wall of her other foot, which had been resting casually beside the first.
You land in a heap between her two colossal feet, trapped in the warm, damp space between them. The air is thick, heavy with her musky, unwashed scent.
You lie there, panting, your tiny body aching from the fall. The heat radiating from your mother's feet is immense, like being trapped between two living furnaces. The air is so saturated with her potent, cheesy odor that it feels thick enough to chew. Every shallow breath you take fills your lungs with the stuff, making you dizzy. It's a miserable, suffocating existence, but you're alive. You close your eyes, trying to block out the overwhelming reality of your situation, focusing on just surviving the next minute.
Above you, the heavens tremble. Eleanor shifts her weight on the couch, letting out a soft sigh as she turns a page in her book. The movement is gentle to her, but for you, it's an earthquake. The fleshy walls on either side of you press inward, the space contracting as she adjusts her posture. The pressure isn't crushing yet, but it's immense, pinning you in place. You can feel the grit and lint from the couch cushion being ground into your back.
Suddenly, a low rumble echoes from the colossal form above you. It starts deep within her belly, a seismic vibration that travels through her entire body and resonates through the soles of her feet trapping you. The pressure increases.
*Gurgle... groan...*
