Terry's thoughts were cut short as Jenna’s hand returned, blotting out the kitchen light once more. Her fingers closed around him with practiced, careless ease, lifting him from the sticky residue on the table. He dangled in the air, swinging slightly as she carried him out of the kitchen and toward the living room.

"Mom! I told you not to grab me without asking f- " Terry's outburst was silenced as her thumb covered his whole head and shoulders. "Mmmph!"

But she didn't even seem to notice that she'd muffled him. “Alright, my little lovebug,” she cooed, her voice a warm, rumbling tremor that passed through his entire body. “Time to get you ready for our special day!”

She placed him in her other palm, and looked at him with her big, excited eyes. “Ready for what, Mom?” Terry asked, his voice a tiny squeak in her immense palm. “I have that Intro to Sociology reading…”

“Oh, pish-posh, that can wait,” Jenna said, waving her free hand dismissively, a gesture that created a small hurricane in the air around him. “This is much more important. It’s our monthly Mommy-and-Me day! Don’t tell me you forgot!”

A cold dread, entirely separate from the chill of her air-conditioned home, trickled down Terry’s spine. He had, in fact, forgotten. Last month’s “Mommy-and-Me Day” had involved a photo shoot where he’d been forced to pose on top of the brownie she then devoured, nearly swallowing him whole. The month before that, she’d “treated” him to a spa day in the tub of her most expensive body lotion. Which she just had to share. What followed was an unholy ride up and down her body. Terry did not look forward to Mommy-and-Me Day.

She settled onto the vast, cream-colored expanse of the living room sofa, the cushions groaning under her weight. She didn't set him down. Instead, brought him up to her face. Her features loomed before him like a beautiful, terrifying landscape. Her emerald green eyes were deep, sparkling lakes. Her perfectly sculpted brows were arches of polished stone. Her full, glossed lips curved into a smile.

"Uh... Of course, I didn't forget, Mom... Can you put me down?"

"Not yet, my little gummy bear! After all, it's..."
