You slowly awoke from your slumber, from what must have been the best rest you'd had in ages. Being out in the wilds for many long days sometimes made one forget how being truly cozy felt like.

You could still feel the dream's soft caress on your back.

"Aren't you a good little moth?"

You uncurled from your little ball to finally open your eyes. Your first thought that you were still dreaming, as you were face to face with a giant. But as the last remnants of sleep were swept away from your mind, you did recognize them.

It was the fairy.

Or rather, they HAD been a fairy. They were wearing loose unfitting clothes, your clothes, and despite of the unearthly airs about them they no longer had wings.

You, on the other hand, did. You were naked, yet the soft scales covering your body helped to maintain a semblance of dignity.

"So... if it weren't for scum like you, I'd never had the reason to use this spell."

Their speech was muffled from chewing, as they greedily munched down on their second drumstick.

"But I'm glad I did. Didn't know we were THAT cute to you big folk. Makes one understand what you do."

You frantically pushed their idly caressing finger away. The words and that grin had been enough to rouse your subdued survival instinct back in order. Your run was cut short by the fae's well aimed spit, tangling your legs and making you fall.

"Our legs are frail. Fairies are meant to fly."

Two earth-shaking steps was enough to position the playful one back above you.

"And you can't fly with wet wings. So if you don't learn it out now..."

Their open mouth didn't finish their words, and were more than content to let the slowly descending drool finish what they started.

The whole situation was mad. You watched the descend as your prone body tried to work itself out. The wings did move, but they felt completely alien in their function.

But more and more of your focus was being captivated by your seal of doom, and more and more did those movements die down.

The flames of the campfire dancing across the trail's surface made it all too entrancing, refracting off of its little bubbles to make it glimmer. You couldn't understand why you felt this way, nor did you really even try.

The trance only broke off as the drool made contact with your back.

You could have thought that it was all over, that your gasp from feeling the saliva inched its way across your useless wings down your neck, but you didn't.

You were slowly accepting that it had been over from the start, that even this pathetic state was bliss you never knew existed at all.

The fae gently placed you inside the empty lantern, the one you had originally planned to use, and affixed it by their belt.

Their movement swang the lantern back and forth, cradling your lying self back to your slumber. Despite of your soggy self, you felt secure and calm. That was enough.
