"So..." Diana's father began, "You know how you've always been a... big girl ever since you were born?"
"Yes?" Diana answered unsure of where her father was going with his question. She'd been a big girl all her life, heck when she was younger she was 15ft tall which was completely unheard of.
Her father began to look even more nervous now. Just why did he look so concerned and unsure? "R-right. A-anyway, your uh... condition is, uh...."
For some reason her father couldn't get the words out and was trying his best to tell her what she needed about her condition. What he knew she wasn't sure and even her mother was looking at him with a small frown.
"If your having trouble I can tell her for you--" her mother cut in.
"No! No that's alright. I can do this." her father assured.
"Dad?" Diana called. "You know you can tell me anything, right?"
The normal sized man looked towards his daughter and back towards his wife. He needed to tell Diana the truth. She had a right to know. He took a deep breath and sighed. "It's my fault." he whispered.
"I'm sorry. I didn't catch that." Diana frowned.
"I said it's my fault!" her father shouted. "It's my fault your 80ft tall!"
Diana's mom looked taken aback by her husband's shout. It was then she realized just what he said. Her eyes went wide with worry and turned her said to see there daughter looking at him with shock written clear across her face.
"What!?" she breathed.
"It's my fault your an 80ft giant!" her father reaffirmed. "I'm the one who ruined your life before it even got started! I'm... I'm sorry! I'm so, so, sorry!"
"What do you mean! How is what happened to me your fault!" Diana asked, her voice slightly raised.
The man hung his head in shame. "Years before you were born I used to work as a journalist for the Town-City Chronicle. I was doing a report on a woman who claimed to be a legit sorceress and of course like a lot of people I thought she was a fraud. Oh how wrong was I..."
Diana listened intently and her mother looked more and more concerned.
"Madame Ruby her name was, and to think I thought she was another con artist looking to exploit the weak minded. I wanted to teach her a lesson she'd never forget so I cut a deal with the Town-City News Network (TCN). I was going to expose her in front of the whole world."
Diana could feel her fists tightening as she listened on.
"She came in ready for an interview and as soon as the cameras were rolling I called her out. I put her on full blast for the whole world to see and made her look like a fool. I called her names, insulted her craft, and was a complete shit heel. She actually ran out of the studio crying."
Diana's mother hung her head now.
"After the segment was over my superiors told me I did a good job and I left to go to my car. When I made it the parking lot she was there with some weird kind of diamond encrusted skull. It started leaking some kind of red mist that she blew in my face and cursed me. She said I'd bring misery to my family should choose to have one."
Diana was biting her lip now.
"I thought she was full of crap and told her to never come near me again. A few years later I lost my job and met your mother. After couple more years we got married and you were born. The rest as they say, is history." her father finished.
Everyone was silent. The long stretch of quiet was maddening. That was until Diana broke it. "Why didn't you ever tell me before?"
"Guilt mostly." her father answered before looking away.
"Please understand, Diana. We didn't say anything because we didn't know how you'd handle it. And also because we spent years trying to track Madame Ruby down." her mother tried explained.
Diana didn't know how to handle this information overload. It was too much. Way too much. Her parents knew why she was an 80ft freak and yet chose not to tell her. This was her life, she had a right to know. Worse yet her father was the one who caused it and let her believe her situation was her own doing.
Just how was she supposed to react.
