"I don't know, honest. We thought splitting up would give us the best chance to escape and find help." Chao confessed. He had no idea where Lao had gone and the was probably for the best since if he did know then the woman in black would've seen through any ruse he'd come up with.
Zang Xiu didn't look all too pleased but could tell the little man in her fingernail wasn't lying. From the time she was a little girl she just had the natural ability to tell whenever someone was lying to her face or telling her a half truth. It was both a blessing and a curse but mostly a blessing, especially in her adult years.
"Fine." She sighed before walking back over to her coffee table. "Then I'll just have to hunt down our mugger friend the old fashion way."
She then tapped her nail against the table until Xiao-Long Chao was knocked loose. He tumbled out of the underside of the giantess's fingernail and hit the hardwood of the table with a barely auditable thud.
"Ow." He groaned, before turning his head to find Zang Xiu towering over him.
"Before I continue the hunt, I want to know the little mugger's name." She spoke calmly.
With a resigned sigh, Xiao-Long Chao answered the giant. "His name's Shang Lao."
The woman in black was pleased by the tiny shop owner's reply and gently placed the cup of hot tea down next to him. It wouldn't help her find Shang Lao and that was just fine. She enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, and it would feel that much more rewarding when she finally found him and pounced.
She turned her attention back to the living room and continued to hunt. Meanwhile in another part of the house, Shang Lao had managed to crawl under the door into another room. Somehow someway despite the size difference, he managed to make it out of the living room and into what appeared to be...
"What...?" Shang Lao didn't know what he was looking at. Well, he did but still found it quite strange. It was room filled with all kinds of toy vehicles from various different eras. There were steam powered trains, wind up key ships, construction trucks, and all manner of other vehicles. "Either she's a collector or into restoration. Maybe both?"
Nothing in this room would help the tiny man but perhaps he could hunker down here until the kaiju-like woman got tired or thought he escaped. He wasn't sure but was certain his odds of survival drastically increased without Zang Xiu in the equation.
With nothing better to do other than hide, the shrunken man ran over to a nearby toy van and struggled to slide the door open. Miraculously he managed to do so and crawled inside before sliding the door back behind him. He'd wait the giantess out then make his grand escape when she wasn't looking, but for now, he needed to rest.
Back out in the living room the giantess was starting to get a little frustrated. She couldn't find Shang Lao anywhere and she'd literally left no couch, table, dresser, or vase unturned. The tiny little man was nowhere to be found and it was equal parts annoying as it was exciting. How long had it been since a tiny gave her challenge. If she was going to catch this one, then she was going to have to get creative.
"Thank Xiu, what's the best way to catch a rat." She whispered.
