Darkness. An ever-present shadow that darkened their senses and shrouded what they could see, hear, and ascertain.
There was nothing before you, nothing behind you, and nothing above or below you. You simply sat there, floating in what you assumed to be an empty void.
Every being who gave their life back to the ether to become something more, whether native to the realm or not, intrinsically was aware of what would befall them in the coming moments of their rebirth.
Darkness? Sight? Touch? Smell?
Those were a luxury only afforded once the welder was done crafting their new bodies in whatever shape they had deemed appropriate.
You were a mere fragment, a soul waiting to fill another shell. You knew not what fate had in store for you-
Nor who it would take you to next.
”You…you can hear me already? That is…most surprising.”
Your maker.
They who fashion such souls and the flesh that bound them.
Yet when they spoke, their voice was tainted with a hint of…trepidation.
Fear? Uncertainty?
How so? Why would they, the all knowing and kind creature they were, have reason to doubt or approach you in such a cautious manner?
”I have yet to fashion your new body. By all intents and purposes, you shouldn’t…”
“Your thoughts…they remain clouded. Uncertain. Deeply disturbed, even.”
Though as if she could feel the growing apprehension within her newly minted mind, her gracious creator and welder began to speak in the soothing and comforting voice the vessel had longed to hear.
“But worry not, child. You will be remade all the same.”
You could not speak, yet you could understand what they were saying on a fundamental level. Were you special? Different? Dangerous?
Was this by their design? A complication of this magnitude had clearly never been seen. Long had you wandered between realms and cycles of vessels to inhabit, yet this was different.
Would this all merely be a result of some grander purpose? Indeed, indeed, that had to be the reason.
There had to be a reason behind all of this. A significance to this inherited struggle.
"Your flesh will soon be grafted to your bones and you will be made whole. Breathe your first breath. Look deep within yourself, and you will see your purpose. Your name. Your designation. The world at which you call home. And the one being fate will make you cling to despite your reduced stature."
Reduced...stature? What...what did that mean? Even with an actual body, your mind was far too clouded too focus on that fact for long.
"...You will see. Simply close your eyes, little one, and imagine your home. Where do you hail from?
