You went to the kitchen and looked around for something to make. Packing stuff might not have been that much of a workout per se, but your body demanded something more substantial than the good ol' cereal & milk that you usually had on weekdays. You looked into the fridge and there was a decent amount of milk, which was never scarce in your home, as well as some eggs, but food was running low otherwise. There were some vegetables but you didn't hate yourself that much. You looked at the freezer, hoping for something better, but all you could find was those goddamned burritos your mom loves. Both you and your dad despise them, but unfortunately you couldn't count on him at the moment to get out of this culinary predicament.
'Ugh, well, I guess I can make due with some scrambled eggs... I hoped for something a bit less tedious to cook this early in the morning' You thought with a sigh.
You grabbed your phone and quickly browsed Youtube for something to listen while you cooked, it was a nice way to make the task less bothersome. You wanted something about 20 to 30 minutes long so you could leave it playing, and most videos in your feed were rather short, since they tended to be memes and shitpost type videos. In the end, you decided to put on a sort of podcast that actually told the news but in a less serious and more irreverent manner, so it was like comedy mixed with the news, an odd combo, but it'd make due.
You then began gathering what you needed, because making scrambled eggs in your personal style was serious business. You grabbed garlic powder, a pepper container with a built-in grinder, the eggs and some butter. You got a somewhat large pan that you knew was the 'good one' for making eggs, others were apparently suited better for meat or other foods, but the only one that seemed to understand the science behind it was your mom.
You buttered it up and put it on low heat while masterfully cracking the eggs and mixing them with a fork, then adding garlic until the mixture changed to a paler yellow color, and added some pepper. Once that was well mixed, you put it on the pan and slowly and gently stirred it as it heated up, this was the longest part of the whole cooking process, but it was worth it, and before you knew it, you served yourself a pretty dang good breakfast, for teenager cooking standards at least.
"And now, on international news... Mexican authorities keep getting reports about a mysterious cult that is at large, no leaders have been identified, numerous people have been allegedly kidnapped. What do these all have in common? They're healthy young males whose age ranges between 16 and 25 years old, according to Detective Rodríguez, the sole officer working in the case..."
You raised an eyebrow. That was odd. You knew Mexico had its issues, but as long as you knew where the 'no-go' zones were, you were supposed to be rather safe. You kept listening as you made a large glass of cold chocolate milk before eating.
"These kidnappings are distinct from those associated with organized crime, who target affluent looking people in order to demand juicy ransoms. This supposed cult simply targets young healthy men wherever they may be, whether it's at the beach, on the streets, and sometimes, they've even broken in homes, but no trace of the perpetrators has ever been found. Plus, no ransom has ever been demanded. And it appears no foreigners have been taken, all of the kidnapped men appeared to be native Mexicans" The news continued to explain. After that, it went on to interview Detective Rodríguez, who, much to your surprise, turned out to be a woman. You chuckled to the sheer silliness of it, as you were already picturing some gruff old man with a Mexican hat and a thick moustache.
'And then we blame the gringos for stereotyping, yet we do the same' You silently chuckled and attentively listened. The woman explained the details of the cases she got in quite a fair amount of detail, though she made it evident herself that she was underfunded and was literally working alone, since all other authorities didn't deem those to be actual crimes that were worth investigating into. She also explained that unofficial curfews were being undertaken by the local citizenry in order to try and prevent the kidnappings. Boys, and even men now try not to be alone whenever outside, and to be in larger groups if possible, as that seems to be the only way to prevent the kidnappings.
'Well, I hope I can pass off as just one more random guy and draw no special interest... But what do they even want those guys for?' You wondered, just as the interviewer asked that very same question.
"I hate to say this..." The Detective replied, she spoke English well, though she had a thicker accent than your parents, but then again, it was likely she didn't get to practice as much living in the middle of Mexico.
"...But it's still a complete mystery... all kidnapped victims eventually reappear where they were abducted, or most surprisingly, back to their homes and families if they weren't local, and none of the victims has any recollection of what happened, they all are aware that there is a gap in their memories, but can't draw anything from it"
The interview went on for a few more minutes, but the other questions were towards the general situation in terms of security for people, and how she as an officer was trying to tackle the issues at hand, as well as providing some insight into how Mexican police operated. You then noticed that you had been so focused on listening to the news that you hadn't even touched your food. Just then, you saw that the front door suddenly opened and Ariadne walked in.
"Lil' brother~!" She cheerfully exclaimed. She knew you were the only one at home, as your mom had told her.
"Oh, something smells nice" She said as she walked into the kitchen.
"It's not a big deal, just made myself some breakfast" You replied with much less enthusiasm than her. It's not that you weren't happy to see your sister after being mostly away in college. But it never felt like you were given a long break from her overbearing affection, which she soon confirmed as she immediately walked over to you and gave you a bear-hug.
"Aww, don't say that. Your cooking is almost as good as dad's, and on some things on par with mom's" She giggled as she gave you a few kisses on the cheek and ruffled your hair.
"So... you ready for the trip?" She asked with a smile, taking a seat next to you.
"Yeah. I just packed my stuff... and yours too. You're welcome" You replied with a bit of snark, and just as you were trying to eat, Ariadne wrapped her arm around your neck and pulled you into her chest for yet another really big hug.
"Thank you!" She said as she finally let go of you. You had to take deep breaths since you had trouble breathing when smothered by the pair of meaty balloons she called a chest.
"Hey squirt!" Your hairs all stood on end as you heard a voice you didn't want to hear this early in the day. Worst of it, it came from behind you. But you didn't even see nor hear her coming...
"I just heard you were a good little brother" Jordana said before backing up her massive ass right against the back of your head, partially engulfing it into her crack.
Ariadne couldn't help but giggle at her best friend's silly antics, while you were far less than amused. You couldn't help but blush intensely, the touch of her overbearingly warm and incredibly squishy flesh did that to you, even against your will. It wasn't like Jordana wasn't quite pretty in her own right, but you weren't exactly fond of how she treated you. Thankfully, this little stunt didn't last for longer than a couple of minutes before she took a seat next to you on the opposite side.
"We have a little reward for you" She then said, patting your head just as she put a large box of pizza on the table, it was still steaming even.
"We were gonna have this pizza ourselves but now that we know we have a little chef at home, how about a bit of a trade?" Jordana smiled.
"I'd definitely take the eggs over the pizza. These babies could always use some more protein" Ariadne said, showing off her biceps.
"Eh, I'm not that much into exercise myself, but those eggs smell way too good. Tell you what, give that to your sis, make some for me and this whole pizza is yours!" Jordana then said.
"I can't really eat a whole pizza in one sitting but alright. Watch a professional at work" You said with a bit of confidence, as this was perhaps one of the few legit good skills you could boast about. You gave your plate to Ariadne and grabbed more eggs to prepare the dish again. Pizza was worth that little bit of extra effort, and besides, you hoped this would help you to get on Jordana's good side, and considering you'd go on a long trip with her, you'd need every chance to get her to be in a good mood with you.
Half an hour later, you served a dish just exactly like the first, scrambled eggs with your very personal seasoning, cooked to perfection. Both girls giggled and applauded your little performance, though that made you blush more than you expected. You weren't as good at taking compliments, and you felt you didn't quite pull off the smug persona. With that done, you could finally eat, as your appetite had grown and you definitely looked forward to eating that pizza. Almost uncharacteristically, there was no further catch, Jordana really brought a large pepperoni pizza with borders stuffed with cheese, which had been yours and Ariadne's favorite ever since your early childhoods. You thanked each other and began to dig in...
