Seeing that Ariadne had you on her lap with no plans of letting go of you anytime soon, your dad simply served you your breakfast next to hers. It was also scrambled eggs but made in the style you had devised yourself which had been a variation of your mom's style.

Scrambled eggs mixed with garlic powder and pepper without any milk or cream mixed in, keeping the egg whites/yolk mix pure other than the added spices. No salt was necessary either. Cooked with a light touch of butter on the pan, it was a simple but very filling meal that could keep you well fed for a long time. Your dad liked your version so much that he ditched his own recipe and learned to make yours instead.

"Weird to see everyone at home this early" You commented.

"I know but that's what makes it all the more special" Ariadne said.

At a first glance one would think that her thing about carrying you around like an oversized teddy bear was just a way of teasing you or showing off her own strength but the reality was that it's been a thing practically since you were born. She was 4 by then but she was already capable of doing so and while you spent most of your time cradled by your mom, Sheila, Dolores or your grandmas, Ariadne had her own fair share of time with you.

You weren't much trouble as a baby and in fact, it surprised your parents quite a lot how all the stories they'd heard from their friends and people they knew were largely untrue. You could sleep in your own room even before reaching a year of age, though not without things like baby monitors just in case.

Ironically, it'd been Ariadne herself who began sleeping in your room with you. Well, you had your crib but she'd sleep on the actual bed. Whenever she had a nightmare or woke up for some reason and had a hard time falling back asleep she'd just go to your room and would sleep soundly. Your parents did find it a bit odd at first but they saw no harm and found it rather wholesome.

Things would take a turn for the worse around the time you turned 5. You began to get sick for apparently no reason and it would get progressively worse, with the most serious symptom being difficulty to breathe specially at night, causing you to wake up many times as you nearly choked. You also were getting ear infections way too frequently, with great headaches and high fevers that kept everyone in your house alert.

Ariadne resumed sleeping in your room with you once they determined that whatever you had wasn't contagious and she'd help your parents by actively monitoring you while you slept, saving your life many times as you woke up in a panic. Her presence always soothed you and looking back, you suspected that if you were an only child you might have developed insomnia from this nasty incident.

After several doctors fumbled around, failing to diagnose you properly, one day Miriam happened to be talking about your situation with your grandmas over the phone and was overheard by Zuleima, who chimed in after the call was done. Being a doctor herself, she was able to get a good suspicion on what your actual ailment was. One visit later and you finally found out that your tonsils and adenoids were the problem. She tried to save them with medication but all efforts failed. There was one episode you distinctly remember to this day where you got an irritated, itchy skin from a slight overdose from some antibiotic because the pharmacy somehow mixed things up and gave your parents the adult version rather than the children one.

In the end, you needed to have your tonsils and adenoids removed surgically. Most kids would've been scared but due to your own fondness for learning about stuff like the human body you weren't afraid. In fact, you were never really afraid of seeing a doctor and instead you kinda treated it like something in between like seeing a friend and also someone who knows a lot about the stuff you like.

Nowadays you're embarrassed by the memories but your mom would from time to time remind you that you used to eagerly read up on medicine/science books or watch documentaries on the tv to have something to talk about or to ask questions about. Even more so with Zuleima being a close friend of your family's and becoming the de facto doctor for you all following the tonsils episode.

One thing that lingered after all of this was that Ariadne still found it easier to fall asleep if she cuddled you but you slept together less often over the years but that was just half of it, the other thing she'd gotten a fondness for was for carrying you around like a living teddy bear. And as she grew taller and stronger it was even easier for her, dubbing you as her "Blaisey-bear". Even today, she'd sometimes ask to hug you while napping and you'd happily oblige because you'd never forgotten how much she helped take care of you every time you got sick and how protective of you she'd been, even if her affection could be a bit overbearing sometimes, then again that was just like your mom's.

"Well, we've got a long weekend worth of nothing. I suppose we're gonna do something?" You asked. You noticed that your mom, your dad and Ariadne all exchanged a look that seemed to you like there was something to know about and you were the last one to find out.
"What?" You raised an eyebrow.

"Who's gonna tell him?" Your dad chuckled, looking at your mom and then at Ariadne, both of which giggled in response.

"Why do I feel I'm the only one out of the loop?" You said, mildly concerned.

"Because you are!" Ariadne said, rubbing her cheek against yours and then giving you a very gentle sort of a noogie. "Oh boy, if only you knew..."

"I haven't even done anything!" You raised both your arms. Your parents hardly ever had to discipline you in any serious capacity, the sole idea of disappointing them that badly being a powerful deterrent on its own. You were apparently the only Latino around that'd never gotten a taste of a mom's angry chancla, if what other people like Dolores' daughters or Romina are anything to go by.

"Well, it's not something bad but you've indeed done something" Your dad said, smirking as he crypitically shed the tiniest bit of light on your situation, leaving you with even more unanswered questions.

"Ok, can someone please tell me what's going on? I just woke up and came for breakfast and I don't think I did anything yesterday that's worthy of mention" You replied, feeling a bit frustrated. Ariadne giggled again and caressed your hair with a hand.

"Alright, enough you two. I'll tell him" Your mom said and smiled mischievously. You couldn't help but gulp in anticipation for something that'd make you cringe at the very least. She playfully frowned and pouted at your reaction.
"What's that face for? Have I ever punished you that badly?"

"N-No" You replied somewhat timidly but still having mixed feelings about this whole situation.

"Well, I'll tell you what" Miriam said "We got invited to that Thanksgiving thing"

"I thought we didn't do Thanksgiving?" You said, not really bothered by the idea but finding it really odd considering that every other year your parents disregarded the thing.

"So did we all" Ariadne said "And this is where you come into the picture"

"Wait what? What do I even have to do with this?" You were only getting more confused with these answers you were getting. Your mom and Ariadne exchanged another knowing look and you saw the former smirking again.

"This girl Jen was the one who kindly invited us to celebrate Thanksgiving with them" Miriam said as she showed you her phone. Jen had indeed texted your mom and it looked like they had exchanged quite a few messages but you could only really see the ones pertaining to the holiday. You couldn't help but blush at the thought. Most importantly, your mom could say things that'd put you in complete jeopardy!

"Ooh, you're red already!" Miriam teased "Is there any reason I shouldn't talk to her? I mean she's a friend of yours and has come to the house quite a few times" She tried to sound innocent but you could sense her intent to tease you further, there was something in her voice that let you know that.

"Do we have to be concerned about her?" Your dad said, making you blush even harder.
"Well, inviting us to dinner with her family is already a good move, a fine step!"

"Dad please... This is probably some misunderstanding" You said, trying to hide the nervousness in your voice "Why would she talk to you directly?" You asked, looking at your mom in the eye.

"Looks like she at least gets the basics of our culture" Miriam said.
"Talking to the mother and getting to know her is a good first step. I appreciate the respect too"

"Mom, it's not what you're thinking" You rolled your eyes. You felt your phone vibrate and pulled it out from your pocket. Much to your surprise, Jen had texted you about Thanksgiving but the messages and notifications got delayed.
'Oh shit' You thought, worried that she might think you ghosted her.

"She said she'd already told you but still wanted to ask me directly" Your mom said.
"Would've been nicer in person but the thought counts"

"Ooh, looks like you've got yet another girl lined up and waiting lil' bro!" Ariadne teased you, ruffling your hair with her hand.

"W-What the hell? What do you mean yet another?!" You were worried, panicking and deeply embarrassed all at the same time.

"Been hearing that there's quite a few girls already interested in you. Should bring them home so they meet mom" Your big sis chuckled cheekily.

"I don't even know where you heard that from but it's absolute nonsense" You sighed.

"Why are you surprised? Wasn't dad just like that when he was your age too?" Ariadne said and your father promptly nearly choked on his coffee upon hearing it.

"Well, what can I say? We girls know a fine man when we see one" Miriam giggled again and lovingly wrapped her arm around your dad's neck.
"If anything I'm flattered that there are girls out there that want you, but they gotta come here and meet the family!"

"Oh god, this is gonna be one of those days..." You quietly resigned yourself to a long day of embarrassment and awkward shenanigans. What was Jen thinking?
