Jonas's feet carried him away from the unisex rack and toward the section he'd been trying to ignore.
The women's costumes.
He told himself it was just curiosity. He was a straight guy, okay? He liked looking at women in costumes. That was normal. That didn't mean he was going to wear any of this.
The first thing he noticed was the color. So much red and black and gold. So much skin. Mannequins wore bodices that seemed designed to push breasts up and out, skirts that barely covered the thigh, thigh-high boots with three-inch heels.
He picked up a hanger holding a Black Widow costume. The fabric was a dark blue bodysuit with panels of mesh and a zipper running down the front. He held it up, and the weight of it surprised him — it was heavier than it looked. The material was thick, almost like neoprene. He imagined what it would feel like against his skin. How it would hug every curve of his new body.
I could wear this.
The thought sent a strange jolt through him. Not arousal — not exactly. More like... curiosity. The same kind of curiosity that had made him click on the "randomize" button during booking instead of carefully selecting his preferences.
What would I look like in this?
He glanced at the mirror propped against the wall. In it, he saw a woman with dark hair and brown eyes, holding a Black Widow costume, a thoughtful expression on her face.
That's me. I'm the woman now.
He looked down at the costume again. The bodysuit would fit. It would fit well. And for a moment — just a moment — he wondered what it would feel like to walk into that convention center looking like a superhero. Looking hot. Looking like someone people would notice for the right reasons.
He shook his head, breaking the spell.
No. I'm a guy. I don't wear women's costumes.
But his eyes drifted to the next rack. Wonder Woman. A schoolgirl from some anime he didn't recognize. A leather-and-latex Catwoman suit that made his mouth go dry.
Curiosity. Just curiosity.
