You awaken to the sound of a woman’s voice talking to someone. Your eyes adjust to the darkness around you, stretching your arms upward in a lazy motion. For a moment, you question why it is so dark…shouldn’t it be morning by now? As you blink your eyes blearily, you recognize your surroundings. It appears that yesterday’s events were not just a nightmare…you are still trapped in the home of someone who will do everything in their power to destroy you. Cautiously, you approach the mouse hole and peek out into the bedroom…it is indeed morning as light fills the room. You see that the bedroom door is open across the room from you and there you see Becky, on the phone with someone. The room outside the door is a short hallway leading to some stairs…the phone Becky is on an old landline sitting on top of a short end table situated in the middle of the hallway. You decide to listen in and see what Becky is saying…
“Honey…honey please listen, I really do not know what’s happened to Hunter! I remember him saying something about heading back to his room for rest or…or something.”
“H-honey, please don’t say things like that! I really don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“Wait, what are you saying? I despise tinies? I…can’t say I care about them, but I wouldn’t say that I…I despise them.”
“…what do you mean you know? You know what?”
“…honey, all your friends who went missing…I can’t believe you’re still hung up on them. That was not your fault! It was no one’s fault!”
“…that is quite the accusation young lady. You know I love you and I would never want to hurt you. Their disappearances and Hunter’s…I have nothing to do with those. And even if I had had something to do with it, you need to understand that I would only do something like that to protect you.”
“O-okay, honey, you can come over. I’ll see you in an hour or two.”
With a tremendous sigh, Becky hangs up the phone. She takes a few moments to collect herself before speaking out with a clear, dangerous tone of voice. “Hunter, I know you’re still in this house. You have perhaps heard my conversation with my darling daughter. Are you happy? You’re driving me and her apart. And now, she’s on her way here; you’re probably happy about that. You’ll just hide till then and pop out like a little rat and tell her everything. Between now and then, however, I will do everything in my power to find you and when I do I will shove your little body so far up my ass you will regret ever escaping. Even if I cannot find you before Quinny arrives, I will still work towards putting you in your place forever.” Becky had been slowly turning and observing the room carefully, obviously trying to find signs of you. You shudder in intense fear…you’ve got your new mission. Hide and survive until Quinn arrives.
You turn away from the mousehole opening and observer the further into the space in the walls you’ve been hiding yourself in. With daylight, you see light filtering in through microscopic holes…they provide just enough light to get a detailed layout. It’s mostly empty except for the presence of a metal wall further down…probably a vent. You walk towards it and see that there is another opening, a rusted hole. Carefully, you push through breaking off bits of weakened metal and enter the vent. It gently rises upwards till you are certain you must be near the attic crawlspace. You continue to walk along the metal pathway until you come upon another vent grate beneath your feet. With a start, you notice that it is situated above the hallway! You peer through and notice with even more elation that the small desk that had the landline phone sitting upon it is also below. The gaps between the vent grate’s teeth are just small enough for you to fit through…
As you contemplate, you hear Becky state “I hear you in there, you little bug.” With a yelp of surprise, you suddenly see Becky’s face near the grate. Falling onto your backside, you quake in fear as Becky chuckles under her breath. “I didn’t think I would be able to locate you so quickly; you really are an idiot aren’t you? Your little feet in there make more sound than you would think.” With a start, you see the grate slowly pully away from the opening…apparently, the screws had long ago stripped out the ceiling panel’s screw holes. Bits of debris and dust suddenly cloud the air; you hear both Becky and yourself start to hack at the sudden pollution. You hear a squeak of surprise and then an incredibly loud THUD. For a few breathless, terrifying moments you wait…and nothing happens. Standing shakily, you approach the vent opening and see that Becky is lying on the floor, her beautiful blond hair splayed haphazardly on the floor. You notice a nearby stool has been knocked over…apparently, Becky must have been standing on it to reach the grate! She must’ve fallen during her sneezing fit and injured herself…you give a start as you notice a small amount of blood matting her hair.
…this was your chance. You can get to the phone! You can call Quinn, your Mom, the police, ANYONE and escape this hell! With an excited whoop, you jump towards the desk with the phone, landing a bit messily as you flatten slightly. After a minute you reform and rush towards the phone, breathing a sigh of relief as you notice it is a speaker phone; you wouldn’t need to pull the phone off the hanger to speak with someone. You scramble up and orient yourself with the numpad, taking a moment to catch your breath and stare down at Becky’s prone form…
“Honey…honey please listen, I really do not know what’s happened to Hunter! I remember him saying something about heading back to his room for rest or…or something.”
