Phil reaches his locker without incident. He takes one look at his locker and gasps. He had been given his locker number before but not shown it. When he arrived, he was taken straight to Ms. Prittey’s class while his mother dropped off his belongings. He was given a locker for a normal-sized student, meaning that the latch, which was the size of him, was about four feet above the ground. Four feet for him may as well be at the top of the highest skyscraper. He would have to climb to get anywhere near it.
He began his assent. The base of the locker proved easy to climb, but he quickly realized how difficult this would be. The locker was made out of a smooth, polished metal, which did not have much by way of footholds. He had to press his body tightly against the locker, using that pressure to thrust himself upwards.
In about 10 minutes, he was about a foot up, when he heard a loud thunder of footsteps and felt the shadow of a finger come upon him.
“What have we here?” a voice called from above. Below him, he saw a sandaled foot land directly below him on the floor.
Startled, he let go and fell. He landed against the top of her foot and slid onto the ground. He looked up and saw for the first time the person’s face. She was a…
