Phil dunks down and crawls into the opening. His head went through just fine, but his shoulder's are getting stuck. He pushes and pushes, and eventually his shoulders and the rest of his chest get through. From there, his waist and legs are a cinch, being far skinnier than his shoulders. He is immersed in the light as it is late morning. Fresh air feels great for a boy who was just stuck in a nylon sock, almost eaten, and then spent the night under a dusty couch.
He walks over the edge of the porch. The ground shakes as a car drives by on the road about twenty feet (more like a mile from his perspective) in front of him. The wind alone almost knocks him over. He decides not to walk along the road: too dangerous. He climbs down the steps of Ms. Prittey's front porch. After everything that's happened to him in the past two days, he wants to go home and see his mother above all else. He has a choice though on how he wants to do that:
1) He could walk along the sidewalk, but there are two problems with that. Fight it might be dangerous. He could get walked on by pedestrians or annoyed by wide creatures, and he is awfully close to the road, never a good place for him to be near: He's had too many bad experiences with roads. Second, he has no idea where he is or how to get home from here.
2) He could go to a neighbor's help and ask for help. From there, he might be able to call his mother and have her pick him up. The danger with this is that he might not be able to trust other people at his size.
