Hearing that Unohana wanted something from him. Naruto gulped in spite of himself. " Well..what do you want?" he asked.
The woman studied him for a long moment "I'm wondering why you, an Arrancar, chose to ally yourself with the soul society against Aizen. I'd like an answer to why."
Naruto shrugged, seeing no harm in that. "There's innocent lives at stake, I had to do what I can to help protect those who can't protect themselves. Might seem strange coming from a former Hollow, but I took what I believed in with me to my grave, Hollowfication isn't enough to change that. I choose to live my afterlife in the same manner I did when I was alive and human. It's as simple and complex as that."
Unohana stared at him, then shook her head. Hueco Mundo was the home of vicious and horrendous fallen souls who became Hollows. Then HE became one of them. Naruto was proof that even as a Hollow, life was determined by one's own beliefs. To stay true to one's path like that without the slightest deviation, even in death...his soul may have fallen, but the boy's spirit was strong as always. And it was strength like that would shake the foundation of the spiritual world as a result.
It made her chuckle thinking about it. If Aizen was evil and he was a Soul Reaper, then Naruto, an arrancar who fought to protect others, was his antitheses. "Ah." Unohana smiled"I must commend you for being so brave and standing up against Aizen, Naruto."
The arrancar blushed, as he met her gaze, his eyes found something that surprised him: There was a scar at the top of her sternum in between her collarbone.
"So that's where you were hurt back when you faced Zaraki when you were a criminal?...huh." he muttered.
Unohana stared at the shrunken, ascended Hollow of the young man.
"H-how do you know about...?!" Unohana said, panic filling her voice.
"Aizen. He had a file on it. Didn't really think it was anything but fiction." Naruto said, then he looked as Unohana gripped the hilt of Minazuki so tight her knuckles were white and her hand was shaking as she built up her Reiryoku.
"BAN..."
"Realx Unohana, Why would I care about a trail of footprints in the desert?" Naruto said calmly.
Unohana stopped building up her spirit energy as she stared dumbstruck at the arrancar. What? What had he just said?
"Wha...what did you just...?" Unohana said, feeling weak-kneed and hoping she hadn't heard him wrong.
"I said I don't care about it. I don't care about people's pasts? Do I think their important to make a person who they are, yes. But do I care about them beyond that, no. Look you're a founding member of the Gotei Thirteen, so as such, you know what life was like before the choice to become Shinigami was like. When there's no other choice to make, you make the choice you must. There wasn't any other way for you to live back in those days. You were that way because it was the only way to survive before the Gotei Thirteen existed. We shouldn't blame ourselves for bad things that happened to us. Sometimes, no matter what we do, we're victims of the circumstances." Naruto said with a small shrug.
Uhohana gawked at the whiskered blond as he looked her in the eye, face serious.
"Unohana. Look at me, look at me and really listen, not just hear...You're a healer, NOT a hitokiri. So you have things in your past your not proud of, who doesn't? Nobody's perfect Unohana. I know that for a fact, since I'm the perfect example of it. Everyone makes mistakes. There's no such thing as a perfect person, or else the world wouldn't be able to improve, evolve for the generations to come." Naruto told her.
"In terms of total existence, I know that I may be a bit young to be talking about these sorts of things, but there is no reason whatsoever that you can let the past haunt you like that. You aren't Kenpachi Yachiru anymore, you're Retsu Unohana. and you'll never have to become that way again as long as I have any say about it, even if I have to take that step for you, you can let the past go and move forward."
Unohana bit her lip as she started to tremble all over and her eyesight blurred and wavered due to the moisture of unshed tears building up in them.
He knew...he knew, yet it didn't matter to him? Hardly anyone within the Seireitei knew her past, most had moved on to the Royal Guard or passed away in the line of duty. Still...her past haunted her. She wasn't naive, she knew all about how all the other Shinigami, even her fellow Captains, feared her...and worst of all, WHY they did. Yet, here he was, letting her know it was alright...that she could move on and utterly forget and bury the fact that she had ever been, was and always would be the most diabolical criminal to ever exist in Soul Society. To discard the mantle of Kenpachi Yachiru at long last.
She sniffed loudly as the tears began to overflow and spill out on their own since she wouldn't weep. She rubbed her eyes to wipe them away.
The next thing Naruto knew, Unohana had slammed him into her lips. As she pulled away, however, Unohana grabbed as her head as if in sudden pain. When she spoke, her voice was much colder and more ominous as she looked at him.
"No...won't...disappear...need to...exist!"
Naruto paled. That was just like how Gaara was originally back when Naruto was alive. Seemed that while Unohana herself sought to change for the better, she was so haunted by her past that she'd developed a split personality with who she CURRENTLY was and who she USED to be!
Unohana was a soft-spoken, polite, and caring woman with a gentle and warm personality.
On the other hand, Kenpachi Yachiru had a violent and bloodthirsty nature, and firmly believed in taking any actions necessary — even sleight of hands such as hidden daggers — to get ahead in battle.
So what would happen to him in this situation?! Shrunken, weaponless, and alone with her, if the wrong side emerged? It was clear "Kenpachi Yachiru" saw him as a threat...which didn't bode well with his odds being what they were if Unohana's bad side got out.
The Fourth Squad Captain clutched her head and swooned as her two personalities seemed to war with one another. After a few seconds, Unohana calmed down and looked at Naruto and the arrancar couldn't help but wonder which side of her personality he would be dealing with.
The woman studied him for a long moment "I'm wondering why you, an Arrancar, chose to ally yourself with the soul society against Aizen. I'd like an answer to why."
