Blake and Indigo were silent as they anticipated Citrine's answer, while Citrine was silent as she considered it. This meant that everyone heard the loud gurgling noises coming from the pudgy belly. Indigo couldn't help but stare at it and think how cute Blake looked as a bit of fat.
"So here's the thing," Citrine began to admit awkwardly. Blake got a sinking feeling in the pit of what would have been his stomach - this did not sound like the start of a love confession. "I know you've hung out with Blake a lot, Indigo, and we've obviously hung out a lot as best friends, but Blake and I never really spoke all that much. He's a cute guy, but I just never really felt anything for him. I ... well, I never really even thought of him as one of my friends. He was just a friend of a friend as far as I was concerned. Pleasant company, but not someone I'd go out of my way to hang out with. Not like you, Indigo."
And there it was. The harsh reality that the girl Blake had developed a crush on did not feel anything at all for him. Each sentence that came out of Citrine's mouth felt like another blade plunging into his heart. If only he had had the courage to speak to her without magical assistance, maybe he could have cultivated some sort of relationship with her.
Indigo knew that Blake would be devastated by this news. She gently placed the tips of her fingers on Blake's spot in Citrine's plump belly and stroked him for a little bit, hoping that this would help him feel better. "That's a shame," she said. "I always thought you two would've made a cute couple, but some things just can't be helped."
To Blake, Indigo's stroking felt nice and reassuring, almost like a hug. To Citrine, it was more like a strange tingling feeling. She wasn't normally that ticklish though. Was it something to do with Blake being in there? Was he making that part of her belly more sensitive? Either way, she knew she had to say more to her best friend.
"Well, here's the thing," Citrine said again, still nervous about what she had to say. "That was how I felt about him before. But this whole thing with him being a living lump of fat in my belly? It's kinda made me start sorta really liking him."
"What do you mean?" Indigo asked, taking her fingers off of Blake.
"Wait, you ... you really like me?" Blake began to wriggle within the confines of Citrine's belly fat, excited at the possibility of having a chance with her after all.
"Yeah, you feel so good in my belly, Blake," Citrine explained with a chuckle. "All that wriggling and squirming you do ... mmm, yeah, that's nice." She stroked the squirming Blake in her belly. "And when my belly jiggles and I can feel where you're jiggling with it ..." She grabbed her belly and shook it up and down a little bit, making Blake yelp as he was thrown around in Citrine's belly fat. "Oh yeah, that's so good. And I can feel when you start blushing as well. It's like this really nice warm feeling." The awkwardness in Citrine's voice melted away as she spoke. "I guess I do love you after all, Blake. Just as a bit of belly fat! And the best part is, I get to keep you around in my belly forever!" Citrine jumped with joy as she finished speaking, causing her chubby belly to jiggle some more.
That was not what Blake wanted to hear at all. "This is ridiculous! Citrine, you can't just keep me in your belly forever!" he shouted as he started kicking again. "Tell her, Indigo!"
"That's right, keep squirming in my belly," Citrine instructed as she began happily rubbing her gurgling, groaning belly, swirling Blake around in circles. "Gimme that good feeling in my belly, just like that. Mmmmmmmm!"
"Um, Citrine?" Indigo piped up. "That's my friend giving you pleasure in there."
"Oh please," Citrine scoffed. "A minute ago you were jiggling my belly and marvelling at how jiggly he was as my belly fat!" She gave her belly a few pats, each one causing her belly fat to wobble. "Besides, I'm your best friend, aren't I? That totally means I outrank him or something!"
When Blake looked at Indigo's face, she wore a conflicted expression. It was true that Citrine was her best friend and she liked her more than she liked him, but she still didn't want to upset either of them. Was there a way to get the excited Citrine to see reason and agree to release Blake from the flabby prison she held him in? Was there perhaps a compromise they could reach? Or would Indigo just have to accept that one of her friends was going to spend the rest of his life wiggling and jiggling in her bestie's big belly?
