The world went black as Tom splashed into her eye.
He hit like a bug on a windshield, her tears washing over him, squishing him against the whites of her eye. He screamed, or tried to, but his voice was lost in the deluge. Alicia blinked again and Tom felt himself crushed, ground to paste by her unconscious movement. The last thing he saw was her lashes like a wall as they closed over him, blotting out the light.
Then oblivion took him, merciful and final. Alicia never felt a thing, never knew what had happened. To her it was just another day, another blink. A loser like Tom was less than nothing to her, and like she would never know he existed. He had been a tiny speck, a dust mote, a mote of dust lost in her eye and blinked away without a second thought.
Tom's last coherent thought as he died was that maybe this was always his fate, to be crushed by a girl like Alicia. A loser to the end, just another pathetic nobody squashed beneath Alicias perfect life. But at least, in the end, he had seen her, been close to her. Close enough to touch an eyelash. Even if it killed him.
As his life slipped away, Tom realized it was a good way to go. Dust to dust, scum to scum. He'd died as he lived, small and unnoticed, a nobody for a goddess. Alicia would never know. But at least he'd had a glimmer of heaven, a peek at perfection, before he winked out like he'd never been born. A loser to the bitter end.
