"The fuck..." It was all Sarah could say as she stares blankly at the creature in front of her. It both looked and acted like a human only the size of a small ant, ripped straight from the plot of a science fiction movie. Sarah leaned forward and pushed her legs out a little so that the tiny person was caught between her feet unable to escape her gaze. "It's ok" she cooed. "I'm not going to squish you". The bite-sized person before her tried to open its mouth in response but the words were inaudible to her ears. "Can't hear you from down there, is it ok if I pick you up?" They nodded in response so Sarah wipe her clammy palms on the side of her jeans and carefully lowered her hand toward the person. Their small hands tickled her fingertips as she watched the curious creature make its way to the safety of her palm. Slowly bringing her hand back to eye level, Sarah gasped at who she saw. It was Katie's older sibling! "Oh shit it's you!!! I staying over at your house! Oh man, how'd you get so damn tiny? Am I hallucinating this?"
"No! No I'm very much real!" You plead. "Thank god you saw me, I've been ant-sized for weeks now!"
"Christ, what the hell happened?" Sarah pressed. "I thought I was joining a clinical study at school but whatever they gave definitely wasn't what was advertised. Anyway, I've been trapped in this lab doing all sorts of tests until today when there was some kind of emergency. The woman in charge of me was ordered to get rid of me and she just left at that gas station!" You can still feel the outrage boil inside of you. How could someone ever be that cruel to another human being?
Sarah was taken aback to learn that you had been with her since the gas station, she swore she saw a weird looking bug on the ground by her feet but wasn't sure at the time. "You've been with me that whole time? Glad you didn't fall off or wind up under someone's shoe!" She laugh nervously but knew that even now any wrong move could really hurt them. "Yup. Listen, I hate to ask this of you, but being as you're the only one who knows I exist and HASN'T tried to kill me, could you help me get back to my family?" You ask somewhat knowing her response already. "Well duh! I'm not gonna just toss you back onto the street like that other lady. I'll even do you one better, I'm gonna see you through till you grow back to normal!" Sarah exclaimed, her eyes widened in excitement. Such a strange and out of this word situation was unfolding before her very eyes, the likes of which she would probably never see again. "Ok, first off I think we should keep my "condition" a secret for now, feels safer that way. Second off, you got any food to spare?" Sarah laughs at your inquiry and places you onto the wooden surface of her nightstand. "Give me two seconds." Sarah takes off into the kitchen to prepare you some much needed sustenance. You take the time to study the detail of her room. Rock posters line her walls, the same attire adorns the messy twin bed next to you. The room looks untouched since her high school days and holds small pieces of nostalgia from when you all were kids. The loud thudding of socked feet rolls into the room as Sarah proudly presents a sandwich cut to mouse-like proportions. You hungrily chomp down on the tasty meal and watch as the giant girl eats the rest. In between bites of food Sarah continues the conversation. "I just realize...It's getting kind of late... and I work a double tomorrow. I know you want to see your family, but is it ok if you stay the night here? I can bring you home as soon as work ends tomorrow!" You find her intentions somewhat peculiar but agree nevertheless, as long as it got you home. Sarah gets to work transforming her tissue box into a makeshift house for you to sleep in. The interior was full of crumpled tissues much like the bedding of a hamster cage and a bottle cap was placed in the corner filled with water. After a couple hours of sharing college stories, Sarah yawns and turns out the light. You settle into your new home and listen to her large breath as you drift off to sleep...
The alarm clock on Sarah's phone bellowed throughout the room. You shot awake in a panic and watched as a massive hand crashes on top of the device silencing its screeches. Rolling lazily out of bed, Sarah lowers her head towards the tissue box wondering if yesterday had all been a dream. Delighted to see the tiny figure inside, she yawn, says good morning and leaves for the bathroom. Trying to ignore the smelly hurricane of the giant's morning breath, you break out of your box and rub your eyes. Sarah returns, already in her work uniform and proclaims her verdict for the day...
