...an army of thousands of ponies charging after them!
Equestria Invading Chapter 5

"They're coming!" Mikel shouted at his friend and both immediately changed plans from finding a new functional car to just hide, hide from these colored giant horses that wreaked havoc from the moment they arrived to earth. It wasn't quite the post apocalyptic dystopian scenario Jake and Mikel remembered from movies, but things quickly turned into a massive disarray the moment humans realized they were no longer in charge, no longer the alpha species of their planet.

As the story went, the alien creatures arrived claiming peace, wanting to learn about the world and to contact its leaders in order to discuss matters of utmost importance. But once they realized humanity's response ranged from scientific curiosity (the kind that wanted to dissect them) to outright hostility things turned sour very quickly.

It was also quite hard to really understand what exactly happened, because from that point a lot of the technology humanity relied upon to communicate globally stopped working. All Jake and Mikel had were stories, stories about civilizations that fell in battle against the aliens one way or another. In one of them, a city from all the way across the country fell victim to their own nukes and weaponry that simply bounced off these aliens as if they had some impenetrable force field, in another, one of the aliens suddenly transformed to the size of a colossus that effortlessly obliterated the city, apparently without even intending to do so. Things were getting harder to believe but the only constant in all those tales was that humans were doomed. Even those who submitted to the whims of the creatures were apparently taken away and never seen again.

With nobody to trust, the city Jake and Mikel lived in fell into a strange mix of anarchy and helplessness, with violent groups wanting to take over, at least until the aliens came, and other groups focusing more on surviving, leaving to more remote places, building small settlements that would be hard to find for the aliens. That's where Jake and Mikel were trying to go, following the rumor of a promising underground commune established near the outskirts of Gettersberg, but now they were seeing a ton of aliens, like soldiers, marching right towards the place they left behind.

"Why are they so many?" Jake whispered to his friend

"No idea, but at least they don't come for us"

As for the ponies, they had their work cut from the start. It didn't take long for the princesses and the bearers to understand an invasion was an invasion, and for the policy of minimum damage and casualties to be reinterpreted because there were just so many dangers to humans and so few of them cooperating. The original plan was still in place, sure, but now the means were different: Make them understand they're not going any time soon, and make their presence known until they stop being so hostile, so stubborn.

The only human in an important position that wanted to cooperate soon showed his true face and had to be dealt with, while the others that listened, out of fear or curiosity or whatever, were taken away with the idea of starting over in a new place, with the idea that once the world could see the fruits of cooperation among humans and ponies this nonsensical invasion could finally end. For now though, the disarray only brought further dangers: Insurgent groups, more and more kinds of ineffective weapons, more hostility, more stubborness. And to the princesses and bearers' chagrin, Earth was far bigger and far less coordinated than they initially estimated.

Jake and Mikel remained hidden until the wave of ponies went past them, only hearing tidbits about danger and something nuclear. They couldn't make sense of it, why would they care about something that didn't hurt them at all? But it was hard to make sense of things since they arrived. Finally, when they thought the coast was clear, they left their hideout and checked on the abandoned cars along the road to see if there was something savageable, until a voice startled them to their core.

"Another place full of these things, why are they so messy? Hey, I just found 2 in here!"

What happens next?
