The coffee shop was silent as the grave as Celestia and I waited for Twilight to arrive. Most of the other customers (and some of the employees) had filtered out of the place quietly and quickly over the course of our presence here, and the few people remaining were clearly doing their best to try and ignore us.
"Who is this mare, anyway?' I said. "You said she was your student or something like that?"
"Mmhmm." Celestia said, taking a dainty bite out of a blueberry muffin. "Even since I, ah, retired from my previous position, I've been filling my free time with a number of hobbies, and one of the most noticeable one has been tutoring unicorns and other magic users. Twilight, I must admit, has been my single best student by pure leaps and bounds; she could do things with her magic that even my old court magicians couldn't have topped."
"Really." I said. "Does she, ah....know anything about--"
"Hello!" A flash of light came into view, and a large portly purple unicorn in a purple sweater and blue jeans popped into view, carrying an armful of various heavy looking tomes. "I apologize if I'm wasn't early enough; I was distracted at home, by--"
"Hello, Twilight." said Celestia, smiling rather mischievously at her. "Thank you for meeting me at such short notice."
"Of course." Twilight said, shaking her head and wiping away her look of bafflement. "It was the least I could after everything you taught me....but, um, ah, why do you suddenly look so--"
"Big?" Celestia said. "Chubby? Portly? Fat?" She giggled a little bit. " Of course I am, but--well, take a look at who it is."
Twilight turned to head to me, scrutinizing me rather closely. "Is....is that Theo?"
"The one and the same." Celestia said. "He doesn't have his memories of our time together, but it's most certainly him."
"I thought he was dead, though." Twilight said, looking at me rather skeptically. "Is he....a reincarnation of some sort, then?"
"I believe so."
"Oh....oh, goodness." Twilight said, her pupils swelling until they all but overflowed her eyes. "That's incredible! Why, with the right spells, I could quite easily cause the former memories to reappear in him. It would take some time to design them, but--"
"Calm down ,Twilight." Celestia said, waving her hand at Twilight. "Please, sit down. We need to talk."
After Twilight took a few conspicuously long minutes to grab a coffee and a scone, the three of us were now seated around the little table, all eyes glancing at one another.
"So, Twilight." Celestia said. "As much as I've enjoyed our tutoring sessions together, i think it's time that we took things in a more hands-on direction."
"Of course!" Twilight said. "What were you thinking, exactly?"
"It's quite simple." Celestia said. "I'm reforming the Celestial Empire."
Twilight didn't even miss a beat. "Really...." she said. "But I didn't even think it would be possible. I mean, it's been so long since you--"
"Wait." I said. "You knew that she was the head of the Celestial Empire?"
"And you didn't?" Twilight said. "....Anyway, how do you thin kit could be possible?"
"Quite simple, of course." Celestia said. "During my retirement, I've been working on a number of spells--spells that I could tech you, of course--that would go a mighty long way towards reforming the empire. A couple of mind control spells, a couple spells for creating magical automatons and other constructs, a few doomsday spells, things like that. If the both of us were to work together, I imagine that it would be very much possible for us to create the Celestial Empire again."
Twilight's eyes grew bigger. "Are...are you saying...?"
"I am, Twilight." Celestia said. "Queen Twilight Sparkle. How does it sound?"
"Could....could I get my own library?"
"You could turn all of Canada into your own personal library?"
"And my own personal research laboratory?"
"You can use the United States for that."
"And....um, my own crown?"
"Well, duh." Celestia said. "What do you say?"
"Of course I will, Celestia!" Twilight said, leaping to her feet. "Oh, it's going to be so much fun, and--um, well, yeah...." She stopped speaking mid-entrance, as everyone else in the coffee shop began to stare at her. "What do we do first, then?"
"We need to go back to my palace." Celestia said, using her magic to pull herself to her feet. "I need you to teach you the necessary spells right away, you're ging to need to get some more appropriate garb, and....well, you're going to need to put some meat on your bones before we set off."
With those final words, Celestia used her magic, the world dissolved into bright light--
