"....All right then." Celestia aid, her booming voice reduced to a whisper. "It seems that I may have gone a bar too far to quickly."
Both Luna an Cadence visibly calmed down. "Sister," Luna said, something of a smile appearing on her face. "Thank you very much for being willing to compromise with us. You know we both very much and want nothing for the best for you."
"We do, really." Cadence said. "...Can we--can we go somewhere and talk about this?"
"Of course."
The world vanished out of view under a sudden barrage of bright colors that forced my eyes shut out of pain--and then, just like that, I realized that the four of us were no longer in the street, or even apparently in the city we had all been in, but....
....well, what appeared to be a throne room. A massive throne room easily the size of a football stadium (and a big one too), filled with tapestries and banners and all that stuff...and most noticeably, a single massive throne that took up most of a single wall.
"What is this place?" I said, stepping away from Celestia as I examined the dilapidated surroundings.
"The throne room of my palace, of course." Celestia said. "Where I held court and so decided the fates of every single human and pony in my Empire." Celestia wrinkled her nose. "It is an awful shame that we let the place get so run down."
"Good riddance." Luna said. "You may have liked this place, but I always thought it was a loss of valuable space. Absolute nightmare to keep warm, anyway."
"Well, uh, that's pretty....something." I said, looking over a portrait that depicted Celestia turning what appeared to be a dragon into charcoal. ".....What happens now, then?"
Cadence frowned. "We need to resolve this particularly messy problem as amiably as possible, of course. From everything I've seen, you clearly don't seem to possess any memories of being Celestia's lover, and don't seem to feel any sort of connection to her."
"I, ah....I'm afraid that I don't have any memories of Celestia, no."
"But it's him!" Celestia said, pulling free her locket and sending it over to Luna and Cadence. "Are you really going to tell me that isn't my Theo standing right there?"
"It.....it's impossible to not notice a certain resemblance," Luna admitted. "but that means nothing on its own. In all likelihood, Theo is just a long-lost descendant of the man you knew."
"And the name?"
"That could be passed down as well." Cadence pointed out. "Celestia, I am sorry, but....well, I honestly cannot say that this is your Theodore at all. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but---"
Celestia's face went still. "Believe that as you may, I know for a fact that this is my Theo, the one I loved so long ago. Nothing can change that."
"Then we are at an impasse, then." Luna said, taking a few steps closer. "And even if this man is the one you loved, that still doesn't justify these sudden dreams of conquer."
The whole room went silence as the grave as the three mares stared at one another. Although I knew nothing of magic (and certainly not the sort of magic these three seemed to possess), I could all but feel the sheer amount of energy in the air now going between these three ponies. If I didn't do something quickly--
"Wait!"
All three of them looked to me.
"Celestia, Luna, Cadence....." I said. "I don't want a fight to go down. I don't want to see any of you hurt, but I also don't want to see the world conquered, or anything like that."
"....Because of that," so I went on to say. "I want us all to compromise. Because we all clearly feel very strongly about this.....how about we all take a day or so to think things over, so that we can negotiate things in a calm and controlled manner. Sound good?"
"....He's right." Luna said. "Nothing will be accomplished if we remain at odds like this."
"Agreed." Celestia said. "If you're willing to be civil about this, so can I."
"Of course."
"Great." I said. "Just great." I looked around the room. "So, um......what should we do about getting back to the--"
"I have an idea." Celestia said. "How about we spend the night here in our old living quarters? Everything should be just as we left them."
"Are you serious?" Cadence said. "I know a great hotel where we could all go and get some great suites for a really good price. We--"
"No." Celestia said. "If we're going to discuss the future of my empire and of my lover, I would like to discuss them in the appropriate setting."
Luna and Cadence both grumbled, bu nodded after a few moments.
After another bout of painful lights, I found myself along with the three ponies in a long hallway, filled with great wooden doors leading into ornate bedrooms.
"I trust you two know where your rooms are, yes?" Celestia said.
"Of course we do." Luna said, gesturing towards a set of doors with various cycles of the room engraved on the front. "We lived in this place for thousands of years, remember?"
"Just be ready to talk sensibly about all this." Cadence said, starting to go down the hall. "And be ready to actually have to make compromises for once in your life."
The two mares soon vanished behind their respective doors, and I found myself alone with Celestia, who was now smiling gently upon me. "Well, then, Theo." she said. "Ready for bed?"
Both Luna an Cadence visibly calmed down. "Sister," Luna said, something of a smile appearing on her face. "Thank you very much for being willing to compromise with us. You know we both very much and want nothing for the best for you."
