You were fairly bored after another hard day of college and part time work, just filling the time with some mindless internet surfing before sleep as usual, and looking forward to the weekend where you could at least stay in bed and play some videogames or do whatever you wanted.

A random youtube video thrown in your homepage managed to grab your attention, something along failed kickstarter products that reminded you how even if you weren't going to get rich working as a busboy at least you were doing things the honest way, putting in the hard work and focusing on your education first before you could move up in life. The video started with some of the good old failures that even you knew about like that silly new console or that revolutionary watch that ended up being impossible to make, but then moved on to other less known campaigns, among those one that you found quite funny.

It was a visual novel that supposedly subverted the tropes of the Harem genre, that kind of game where the goal wasn't to defeat a bad guy or to win against an opponent but just to make girls fall in love with you. You chuckled watching how the video trashed the overdeveloped girls and their generic descriptions before mentioning how the developers did raise the money but the thing apparently was cancelled without much explanation.

The video ended with other less interesting products so you went to the campaign page and got more info about it. Indeed it looked like one of those visual novels you haven't played in ages, and were curious to know if it was like that other simulator that got a lot of money but never got off the ground. Was it really that hard to make a game like this? You liked the idea of the narrator being more like a voice in your head though, that sounded more like a cheat code.

"If only it was that easy in real life" you had a laugh at your supbar experiences with love and wondered how easier things would be with some sort of omnipresent voice guiding you instead of having to expose yourself to being rejected or awkward dates that never really moved to anything else.

You spent more time looking at the supporters complaints and other info about the cancelled game before finally calling it a day.

You woke up a bit startled, wondering what happened to the alarm and if you were going to be late to class but you immediately got alarmed when you noticed this wasn't your small but comfy room. It seemed like the room of somebody completely different, somebody that lived better off than you but was quite a bit more disorganized

"How foolish of me to arrive at the wrong home!" A voice suddenly said out of nowhere

"What the... Who are you? Where are you?" You were obviously scared. The voice resonated clearly as if it was someone next to you, but nobody was there.

The voice further confused you mentioning something about an opening sequence until you could recognize something that gave you shivers.

"Here we are, our HAREM PROTAGONIST! You my boy are going to"

You stopped listening, that was the name of that game! Were you dreaming? You pinched and slapped yourself a couple of times but nothing was happening. What was going on? Did you go crazy? How do you escape this? Your brain was overworked and disperse with questions about your life, health and sanity, none of them with a satisfying answer.

"Are these honestly all video games and underwear strewn about your room?..." The voice sarcastic comment reminded you that you weren't in theory alone and all you could think of was holding your hands to your head, considering the idea of hitting it with something until you pass out and maybe you would wake up back in the real world

"I am narrator, here to guide you on your way to winning the hearts of a number of young ladies" the voice continued.. Yep, you would have to hit your head until reality came back

"NO!"

"Ack!" A shout from the supposed narrator interrupted your intentions to bang your head against the wall, you closed your eyes and when you opened them back your vision was clouded by.. a lot of icons with zeros next to them and some choices of girl names.. what?

You made a mental note to check yourself into a mental hospital once this was over.

"You're nothing if you cannot gauge your own worth" the narrator anounced, your vision still covered by those things. You had to agree. You couldn't gauge anything about yourself at the moment.

"Over time you can find ways to improve yourself, right?" the narrator finally stopped. He was right, your mental health might come back later. Now you looked around and with the..game panel you guessed, invading your eyes you knew you couldn't do anything so you wondered if you should pick something to make it disappear. You sighed when you noticed there was no exit options, or settings button, or something that could give you the option to "let me go back to work in real life".
