"You don't have to do that mom, don't worry" Izuku explained again, not wanting to be seen as a spoiled child on his first day at the academy of his dreams. And even if it was dangerous, thanks to circumstances he was still struggling to comprehend, he now had a way to take care of himself, even against the normal sized threats of this world.
"Izuku" Inko said, but her tone and look already told the new hero in training he might have misread the situation. It wasn't the stern tone of a mother annoyed by a son that wasn't listening to her words, it was apologetic instead, regretful.
"You are amazing. You fulfilled your dream even if you don't have a quirk, even despite what I said" she stammered and looked away for a second, looking so vulnerable despite being hundreds of times bigger than Izuku. Of course he knew what she was talking about, that terrible day was still a vivid memory after all these years, when he was told he was part of that decreasing percentage of the population without any quirk and, when searching for some reassurance and asking his mother if he could still be a hero, she gave him an answer he didn't want to hear, apologizing and crying with him.
"Mom, it's okay, I-" Izuku also knew that as much as it hurt, she wasn't wrong. At least not back then. At one point even All-Might himself told him to give up on his dream! How could he blame his mother? Things were different now and he wanted to reassure his mother that she shouldn't blame herself for anything, that thanks to her help during the ten months of training he was able to fulfill his dream, even if he couldn't share the details in full.
"Son, I still regret saying what I said, losing my faith instead of supporting your dream like you needed. I know you can take care of yourself, I just.. I just want to help you in any way that I can, to show you that I will never lose my faith in you again. It's okay if you don't want to, but please let my drive you to UA, at least just today" Inko finished pouring her heart with a smile that easily disarmed any childish objection Izuku might have had. He never felt his mother stopped supporting him after that day, but he also never heard her like this. How could he deny her request?
"Of course mom, thanks" Izuku nodded, smiling back after the cathartic talk. He never doubted his mother, but somehow hearing her say it made the whole thing hurt a lot less. He would achieve his dream, become a hero like All-Might, reward her faith on him, make her proud.

Like everything else, Inko's car had seats adapted for male passengers, allowing Izuku a nice view of the road but due to the noise of the car and the need for the driver to stay alert, not allowing him to talk a lot with his mother. Once the warm feelings of the bonding moment passed the teenager desire of independence resurfaced and a tiny part of him hoped nobody saw his mother carrying him to the door. At least with the view he could look in awe at the school of his dreams again, this time as a student.
"We're here sweetie" Inko parked and as always, carefully set her hand for Izuku to climb on reluctantly, hoping she didn't decide to kiss him or carry him all the way. To his surprise she just got out of the car and gently crouched, setting her palm on the floor.
"You can find your way from here, right?"
"Yes, the entrance for men is right there" Izuku pointed out to a small gap near the main gates.
"Good, then I won't bother you anymore. Have a great first day, go and achieve your dream son" Inko said with a huge smile and patiently waited for her son to climb down her palm. Izuku smiled back and did so, giving her fingertip a tight hug after realizing all this time she knew how he was feeling too.
"Thanks for the ride, mom" He waved as her mother got back to the car and left, ready to start his adventure at the school of his dreams.
