Ben calmed himself down as he watched Amana leave, partly because his stomach reminded him of what the priority was and partly because well, she was right. If she ate like a pig and why was none of his concern, but her attire and her unhelpful attitude definitely were. Ben prepared some eggs for himself and started to consider how he should approach this: Amana wasn't wrong when she mentioned this place in the middle of nowhere that didn't even have power lines was rock bottom, and thanks to his unfortunate incident he knew he wouldn't hold much sway when sending a report, but there was always a way to make things happen.

"Maybe I should check on Dr. Cole, figure out how to get rid of her. He sounded like he was in a lot of pain last night though" he mused to himself while eating, shaking his head still not being able to take the image out of his mind of Amana devouring all that by herself. It was disgusting, and kind of enthralling too, even if he didn't want to admit it. But he came here to work, not to explore weird fetishes with a sleazy assistant that didn't even know how to dress herself properly.

Not bothering to look for guidance in an assistance he was already looking forward to get rid of, Ben found his way to Dr. Cole's office and started checking on the notebooks and the laptop for information about the supposed mysterious disease that was affecting this remote town. Fortunately for Ben, the university equipped him with an account and the required privileges to start on his task without additional guidance, either from the ill Dr. Cole or from Amana.

"I definitely need to check up on this with Dr. Cole" Ben said to himself finally finding something good about this lame job so far. This was interesting. Dr. Cole's research was definitely incomplete, but it was rigorous and organized enough to make Ben agree with the idea that there was a non negligible chance a medical breakthrough could be made here. With the subpar resources at his disposal most of what Dr. Cole could do was run basic tests on patients and discard known afflictions with similar symptoms, capable of putting people in a comatose state, and yet what he did was enough to discard the main theory he had in mind when he heard about the case, a virus mutation that had a low transmission rate but could cause enough damage to the body once it was in.

After gathering enough info and creating his own file detailing the multiple next steps he could take, Ben remembered he needed to go to the post office, maybe he should get that out of the way and even go ahead with the report, just in case it actually worked. He also could check up on Dr. Cole and provide some help with whatever illness he had, remembering Amana didn't specify what it was exactly, or he could go ahead with one of his plans by checking up on the patients. Just as the name crossed his mind accompanied with the image of her eating that entire ham by herself for breakfast Ben winced, knowing he also had to ask her for whatever information he had and could be of use. At least for the sake of the research, even if as far as he was concerned, she was going to be laid off soon.
