Marilyn "Mari" Squallfield hails from a remote island in the Phantagrande Skydom, where she lived a very ordinary life with her childhood friend Meg. Having come to perceive herself as Meg's rival, she had a habit of trying to one-up her whether it was about vacationing or love life... only Meg never seemed to notice this about her best friend.

This self-proclaimed rivalry came to an end after Meg saved her life one summer. She began to see her friend in a whole new light and, eventually, realized that she had fallen in love with her. Her affection towards Meg can sometimes border on obsessive, but it has managed to stay manageable thanks to Meg's reciprocation to her feelings... albeit not with the same level of intensity.

After a certain summer incident involving sharks and zombies, Mari was elected as the chairperson of Auguste Tourist Association as a part of the island's rebuilding efforts. Despite not being a native to the island, she quickly proved herself both passionate and capable leader with a bright and outgoing personality, and has held that position ever since... even if it does mean spending some time away from her beloved Meg.
